Council for Federal Cannabis Regulation

Council for Federal Cannabis Regulation The Council for Federal Cannabis Regulation (CFCR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Washington, DC.

The mission of CFCR is to assist the government, and specifically federal regulatory agencies, to rethink cannabis regulations. Our overarching goal is the de-stigmatization, normalization, and legitimization of cannabis on behalf of consumers, the professions, organizations, and businesses who support and serve them. We do this by serving as a conduit for informed scientific research, inclusive e

ducation, and by mainstreaming the best practices that enable the industry to maximize its potential.

April is National Minority Health month.

Facts matter. Let's call out the real reason cannabis is illegal. In doing so, we must recognize the harmful impact of the failed War on Drugs, that is still affecting communities of color (PTSD, anxiety, depression, etc....) and how cannabis can help.

There is a growing public health crisis that has been created by the inequities existing in our current system, highlighting the lack of access to healthcare for those who are struggling.

It is past time to recognize the role that cannabis vs. 'medical ma*****na' can play, especially how it affects marginalized communities.

The Chair of our DEI Committee, Christine De La Rosa spoke this week about the difficulty of being a medical ma*****na patient, and the struggles that are faced daily in the BIPOC community.

“Racial inequity, materializes in places that won’t show. States like Colorado are trying to lowering THC limits, and the amount you can purchase. If you are a person of color – this may force you to buy in the illegal marketplace.”

This is repurposing harm. What does the government need to do for medical patients needs for more access? Many people in these communities have undiagnosed ailments due to the inequities within our healthcare system.

We must consider all levels of consumption, as more people switch from opioids to cannabis - as a replacement for prescriptions. In doing so we can discover what is possible, especially for those who do not have access to transportation or insurance.

Only then can we accurately reflect the realities of each patient and consumer, as the scope of medical needs expands into health and wellness for all.

We can, and we must do better.

This month is Women’s History Month, and today is International Women's Day, celebrated worldwide every March 8th. Our question is, how do we collectively celebrate Women’s achievements, not just one day a month or one month a year?

At CFCR we are striving to create a brighter future for the next generation of female leaders, where we can all imagine a diverse, equitable and inclusive world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

We have many amazing women leading CFCR. Today we would like to highlight our Founder and Chair, Sheri Orlowitz, as well as all the many other extremely talented and passionate women throughout our organization.

Every person in our organization is highly valued. As we look at the cannabis industry, we see wide disparities with only 23% of women in leadership positions according to MJBizDaily. We would like to change that narrative.

We believe inclusion, by bringing attention to gender equality, and change the lack of opportunities for Women in cannabis and elsewhere.

CFCR envisions a world where Women are valued and celebrated, where we raise awareness and fight against discrimination, only then will Women achieve true equality.

We celebrate all the (Wonder)ful Women of CFCR, and every other organization working to create a better world for all!

Please share women leaders who deserve acknowledgement - name them in the comments below.
