Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a $9.4 million investment in composting and sustainable waste projects across the country. This project aims to improve composting infrastructure and minimize the amount of food waste going into landfills. Read more here:

Through its Food Matters initiative, the NRDC is providing strategic and financial support to select cities with populations of 200,000 or more who wish to expand their composting programs. The deadline to apply for assistance is Feb. 17. Learn more about the program here:

The Food Matters initiative, first launched in 2015, can provide technical assistance and small amounts of funding for a range of local efforts. Previous participants include Baltimore, Cincinnati, Denver, Nashville and Phoenix.
