5th Pennsylvania Regiment

5th Pennsylvania Regiment Members of the Fifth Pennsylvania Regiment are available for your next event. We would love to share Welcome fellow patriot and student of history!

As volunteers, we are dedicated to portraying the men and women who fought and suffered for our Independence. The Fifth Pennsylvania was a locally formed regiment of Chester & Bucks County men. Originally formed by β€œMad” Anthony Wayne in 1775 as the 4th Pennsylvania Battalion, it was reorganized under Col. Francis Johnston as the 5th PA. Our family friendly unit consists of two companies, a Light

Infantry and a Rifle Company, as they appeared during the Philadelphia Campaign (1777-1778). We are full members of the Continental Line.

As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of American independence, WCHP is preparing for a truly special Independence Day Celebration, and we’re calling on you to be a part of it 🫡

FWCP has launched a targeted fundraising effort to reach its $75,000 goal and support a larger-scale, community-wide event. The day will feature living history programming, live music, and a fireworks finale over the Delaware River, creating a meaningful and memorable experience for visitors of all ages πŸŽ†

To help inspire giving, the Gene and Marlene Epstein Foundation has pledged to match all donations up to $10,000, doubling the impact of every gift made through June 4, 2026. Early support has already been provided by partners including our Colonel Level Supporters, The First National Bank & Trust Company of Newtown and Crown Holdings, Inc. πŸ’

While a portion of the event will be supported through on-site ticket sales and concessions, community support remains essential. Be part of this once-in-a-generation celebration, make your gift today and help bring the 250th Fourth of July to life: https://tinyurl.com/463vu35c πŸ”—

This morning, the New York State Museum will participate in the dignified transfer of the remains of Revolutionary War soldiers recovered from the Courtland Street Burying Ground in Lake George, as they begin their final journey home escorted by vintage military vehicles and a motorcycle procession. On Friday, May 22, the soldiers will be laid to rest with full honors during a public reinterment ceremony at Lake George Battlefield Park.

The burial ground was discovered in 2019 during construction work, and evidence recovered from the site linked the cemetery to the 1775–1776 Quebec Campaign of the American Revolution. Since then, Museum researchers, partners, and volunteers have worked carefully to recover and study the fragmented remains of more than 40 individuals, helping restore the stories of those who served and sacrificed during the fight for independence.

Using the DNA analysis techniques available at the time of excavation, our team was able to determine broad European ancestry. We also know that all but one of the individuals were male, with many of the remains belonging to soldiers in their teens and early 20s. Additionally, historical accounts β€” along with the discovery of military buttons from the 1st Pennsylvania Battalion, established in 1775 β€” strongly indicate the remains date to the Revolutionary War.

As advances in DNA technology continue to expand what researchers may be able to learn from historic remains, samples and documentation from the excavation have been carefully preserved for future study. While additional analysis is an ongoing area of interest, any future work would be approached thoughtfully, respectfully, and in collaboration with appropriate scientific and cultural partners.
