Two days Before Easter I met with one parent at a store parking lot for them to pick up their hygiene bags and household basket. During our conversation she mentioned a young mom and two little ones that started staying at her gram’s house.
So into the store I went, to get a few things for the baby and toddler. We are Not going to let kids go without anything for Easter.
About 2-3 years ago , ironically I was in the same store getting crafts or something and there was an older woman and three young girls shopping too. I heard the grandmother telling older one to pick out three of the premade Easter baskets and something about that’s all she can do. The youngest girl came back around and saw. She asked for one with a cheap looking Barbie in it which it more than the cheap ones. The grandma looked distraught trying to convince her to choose one of the cheaper ones. So I quietly told her about what our group does and I actually live up the road and we have leftovers from when we made our baskets up and they are more than welcome to follow me and make their own baskets. Surprisingly she agreed and these were the sweetest most grateful little girls I ever met. The grandmother cried and kept hugging me.
I called my husband on way home to give heads up and he was there waiting to help. Not at all ready to lecture me for bringing strangers to our house. It was in our large outbuilding but still. We have so many heartfelt stories to tell from the last 9&1/2 years. I’m glad it’s getting back to the way it was🥰.

Had to make a 2nd run to get more hygiene items to complete all the hygiene bags needed. This was right before Easter.

We are good for a while now plus we recently received the 59 premade hygiene bags from one of the churches we partner with.

Almost all the non clothes items are over at our new space now. In process of making all the spring clothes allotment bags for the current families we are helping including the ones with our new bridge the gap program.

Our next sponsorship opportunity will be end of July for our annual “Outfit a Kid’s First Day”. This is offered to the schoolage children of the families we help that had a crisis. We will also be including the kids in the bridge the gap program as well.

Last of the kids’ April’s birthdays 🥰. Still loving all of these cute cakes!! Keep up the amazing job Washington Walmart bakery!!! Walmart
This one was made possible by emerick too. He also just donated more for 3-4 cakes!!! The outreach team provided the decorations , candles, and a gift( we still need to send gifts for these past two). We only have two for May and one in June but a lot in September and November so it’ll even out.
The two girls’ birthdays for May are both in Mon valley . Two households ages 5 and 17. Do not have the details yet but if anyone wants to personally order and pick up or arrange either cake let us know. I know a lot love doing it. And if anyone wants to donate new toys for us to use for the birthdays, we can start accepting again.

Since 2017 the Village has been providing Easter baskets. Our biggest year was 2020 where we pre-assembled 107 baskets! Ones in pictured are 95 baskets from another year.

We started out having an “fill your kids’ baskets” Easter event at a church. Where the parents would come and go to each categorized table and pick out the items they fill their child would like best. This was always and still is my personal favorite way of doing it. It allows the parents to be able to “make” their child’s basket and still remain that normalcy.

When Covid started for safety concerns, the church was closed. My daughter Kat and I ended up assembling all the baskets in our home. Everything leftover from Christmas event and I was able to get bulk items from a local penny shopper very cheap out of pocket. And we still have bigger items that we don’t put out for the “stuff your stocking” Christmas event that we would use for birthdays or when an unexpected child placement crisis occurred. That way no outside collections to adhere to the no contact policy.

I Still had a lot of kids at home then got the lung disease so the church event and the assemble the baskets at home way were getting to be too much. And like the stockings , this will be the 2nd year. We did sponsorships for the kids’ baskets. Which the sponsors go above and beyond! The baskets are so cute! I think 30 last year and 40 this year.

Besides helping the families in crisis and the kids/clients in the bridge the gap new village program, we want to help those struggling also with all the extras we will be getting again.

Next year we want to beat our highest number! Now that we have the space to store , we can start collecting again. All of you always gave us more than we could imagine, so extremely grateful.
Thanks, it truly takes a village

Another kiddo celebrated their birthday today! Happy 18th for this young man. I think all kid birthdays should be celebrated no matter how old. A lot of the Easter basket giveaways are at 13 but we do 0-18. Same for Christmas too.

This is another cake from Washington Walmart, I can’t figure out how to tag their store but let them know their bakers are going above and beyond on these cakes❤️!

ThanKevin Emerickevin Emerick for donating for this cake!
