Washburn Emergency Services

Washburn Emergency Services Providing emergency services for City of Washburn and surrounding communities.

06/04/2026

June 1–7 is National CPR & AED Awareness Week, and we’re sharing a story that hits close to home.

In this video, one of our own Washburn EMTs shares their cardiac arrest survival story, a powerful reminder that cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time.

The actions taken in the first few minutes matter. Early CPR and the use of an AED can double or even triple a person's chance of survival.

You don’t have to be a healthcare provider to save a life. Everyone should know CPR.

Want to learn? Join Washburn EMS for a community CPR & AED class on Saturday, July 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ambulance Hall.

⚠️ RSVPs are required.

Contact us at (715) 373-6176 or email [email protected] to reserve your spot and gain the skills that could help save a life.

This week, members of 🚑 Washburn EMS, 🔥 Washburn Fire Department, 👮 Washburn Police Department, and 📞 Bayfield/Ashland County Dispatch participated in an important Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) training featuring DC Jeffers from the Chippewa Fire District. 👨‍🚒

DC Jeffers shared insights from a real-world hay wagon tip-over incident involving school children, walking us through the emergency response, coordination challenges, and lessons learned from the scene. Trainings like these help ensure our agencies are prepared to respond quickly, effectively, and compassionately when large-scale emergencies happen. 💪

Participants also had the opportunity to review MCI go-bags 🎒 and refresh themselves on local protocols and procedures 📋.

A huge thank you to DC Jeffers for taking the time to share his experience and knowledge with our crews and partner agencies! 🙏

🚑 EMS for Children’s Day at Washburn Elementary! 🚑

On Wednesday, members of Washburn EMS and Madeline Island EMS brought an ambulance to Washburn Elementary School for a hands-on learning experience with students from 6 grades!

A total of 157 students toured both the outside and inside of the ambulance while learning about the equipment EMS crews use every day. Students got to check out and try equipment including the cot, stairchair, C-collar, and patient monitoring equipment.

Thank you to Washburn Elementary for welcoming us and giving students the opportunity to learn about emergency medical services. We loved answering questions and sharing what we do with the next generation!

A special thank you as well to our EMS crew members and our partner from Madeline Island EMS for helping make the day a success. 🚑💙

We’ve already shared how proud we are of Carl and all he’s done for our service and community - this article does a great job capturing his story and impact.

The call came in early on a sunny May afternoon.

Several members of Washburn Fire Department volunteered their time to help make this video in support of The Auxilia Initiative- a mental health resource for first responders (and others) who may be affected by an incident in our communities. Awesome job to all involved.

We don't usually share outside job postings, but this one hits close to home. Dispatchers are the calm voice on the other end of the line, the first link in every emergency response, and the reason our crews can do what we do. If a career in emergency services has ever crossed your mind, this is worth a look.

Looking for a rewarding career that directly serves the local community? We're hiring part-time dispatchers! Follow the link below to learn more and apply today:

What a day! 🚒

Crews have been busy across the Washburn area today responding to downed power lines from the storm. Even our own fire hall lost power — but firefighters get creative when dinner's on the line. Tonight's meal? Pizza, cooked up using a pizza oven powered by one of our member’s electric trucks. ⚡🍕

A serious reminder: If you come across a downed power line, stay back and treat it as if it's live. Never assume a line is safe — even ones that look harmless can kill. Keep your distance, keep others away, and call it in to the power company immediately.

Thanks to our crews for the hard work today, and thanks to our community for your patience as we work to keep everyone safe.
