What papayas daily recovery looks like after having a major abdominal surgery last week.

Fluids under the skin every other day
Pain meds daily
Antibiotics every 3 days
Gastro coat med every day
Clean the suture site
And a lot of love

Papaya’s recovery is going to be a slow one but everyday we fight.
Today Papaya had received her gasto coating medication, antibiotics, pain meds and subQ fluids under the skin. Now she is enjoying a nice break on the heat mat before bed and back into recovery jail.

Papaya is now on day two of recovery.
Yesterday she was still waking up a little bit and continued to roll and try to move.
Today she was fully awake most of the day and got her first round of all her meds and SQ fluids under the skin.
She has 7 staples and she will go in for a recheck in 10-14 days. Staples will be removed in 55-60 days pending recovery of the suture site.
The next week is critical but we will continue to support and love her and do everything she needs to give her the best shot at recovery.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, donated and have sent kind words and encouragement.

Papaya is out of surgery and waking up. She is resting comfortably. We are not out of the would yet. The next week is going to be the most important. As she has two incisions in her digestive tract.

Just for anyone to know, what happened to Papaya was a freak accident. Something that was extremely rare. Papaya was take out of her enclosure to give her normal dose of liquid calcium with an ORAL syringe that we use to both draw up and administer the liquid. This has been done many times with her. I was with her the whole time. this time she decided to try to eat it (which she has never done before) she moved quickly and managed to bit the syringe in the perfect spot that just so happens to shatter it. She accidentally swallowed a piece which I had no idea she actually did. My gut feeling was to xray her to check and I’m so glad I did. I wanted to be safe then sorry. She was then rushed into emergency surgery.

This is the worst day…

My girl was rushed to The Odd Pet Vet for emergency foreign body removal surgery and potential spay. Papaya has always had a large prey drive and unfortunately she went after a glass pipette and shattered it. She accidentally ingested a piece. It’s so devastating. As May of you know this girl is my entire world. We brought her back from near death. We DESPERATELY need your positive energy and healing prayers. We have been told before that if she ever had to go under anesthesia she may never wake up. If anything happens to here I will never be the same.
