Saints Rose and Clement Garden

Saints Rose and Clement Garden Through the Garden Ministry we grow fresh vegetables and fruit for people dealing with food insecurity. Everyone is invited.

Everything grown is given to West Bay Community Action food bank, or the Mother Theresa Ministry for their free meals program. Jesus tells us repeatedly in the New Testament that one of the greatest commandments is to love your neighbor as yourself, and he guides us with examples of how to do this by helping people whose lives are a little harder. Through the Garden Ministry we try to follow Jesus

’s message by growing a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits for people who are dealing with food insecurity. Everything we grow is given to the food pantry at West Bay Community Action, or to the Mother Theresa Ministry for their free meals program, or sold at our farmer’s market and the funds are also given to the Mother Theresa Ministry. No need for a green thumb, just an open heart for working with others, learning about gardening, and a desire to help others in need.

Earth Day is a reminder that caring for the environment happens at every scale.
From community efforts to policy changes, big actions matter. And so do the small ones we can take at home.
This spring, starting small in your garden by planting herbs, growing in containers, or supporting pollinators, can make a meaningful difference.

There’s something meaningful about this time of year in the garden - a mix of waiting, preparing, and beginning again.

Across Catholic communities, gardens are slowly waking up, offering space for reflection, connection, and care for creation.

What are you noticing in this season?

If you’re spending time in a garden - planning, planting, or simply observing - we’d love to hear what’s unfolding where you are.

We are humbled and honored to be chosen as the MeadowBrook Warwick Stop & Shop store's Bloomin' 4 Good charity for the month of November. In this time of need for so many we especially appreciate your generosity. All funds raised will help continue the garden's mission of providing fresh produce for those experiencing food insecurity.

On the feast of Our Lady of Mercy, may our gardens help us live the Works of Mercy - offering hospitality, learning side by side, welcoming the newcomer and the overlooked, and feeding our neighbors.

Big thanks to Eliana, Benjamin and their mom for helping us not once but twice! Their mom told us they also volunteer at a food bank as well. We love our St. Rose students!

For years, our motto has been "Many hands make light work" and the past two weeks have been proof of that. Thanks to the members of SEIU District 1199 New England for coming together to help get our beloved garden back in shape. We still have a way to go but the difference in just two weeks is remarkable: overgrowth has been trimmed, paths have been cleared with fresh wood chips between the long beds, and old rotting structures disassembled and removed. Our fourth long bed is now 2/3 complete and we hope to have it ready to plant our fall lettuce crop in a few weeks. All of the ripe blueberries were picked. Thanks also to Tom from the Knights of Columbus for cutting the grass on Friday so we could focus on other tasks. Most importantly, our beds of potatoes, squash, tomatoes, onions, and beans are thriving.
