Katelyn's Kause

Katelyn's Kause In the Memory of Katelyn Knebel For those who knew Katelyn, she was always laughing and smiling, and always up for a good time.

On September 21, 2004 Katelyn Knebel passed away at the tender age of 17, after a three year battle with Ewing's Sarcoma, a type of cancer affecting the femur bone. Throughout her long battle, Katelyn stayed positive, upbeat, and high spirited, even when times were at their hardest. Being raised in Warwick, Katelyn became very close to many people. She showed many that life is not to be taken for

granted. Katelyn was loved and supported by all who knew her. She enriched the lives of friends and family, including her father Robert, brothers Robert Jr. and Harold, and sister Allison, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Katelyn was an extraordinary girl that will be forever missed and will always be looking down upon us.

Katelyn’s Uncle, Gary Knebel, and some of his co-workers at Mid-Orange Correctional Facility held a softball tournament in 2003 to raise funds for Katelyn. The money was for her to be a kid and do whatever she wished to do with it. When Katelyn was surprised with this donation she told her Uncle to keep the donation and invest it in something bigger. Make a difference in other children’s lives. Katelyn requested that the money raised be donated to those who were less fortunate than her. And this is where Katelyn’s Kause began.

It started with a selfless act of a young teenager who was faced with a hard reality of what life is. Katelyn lost a long and hard battle against Ewing Sarcoma in 2004. Sometimes when a beautiful life is lost, it inspires a legacy. From sadness and grief, something positive arises. That is what happened in this case.

Unfortunately Katelyn’s Kause came to an abrupt halt when the Mid-Orange Correctional Facility was closed down in 2011. Katelyn’s Kause lost their venue and many of the volunteers lost their jobs.

But we are happy to announce that KATELYN’S KAUSE is BACK. And our message is louder than ever! We are on a mission to make our Kause great again! Helping children suffering from cancer is our GOAL! Sharing Katelyn’s story about her bravery, courage, kindness, and generosity, we want to come together to help children who have hard days in front of them. PLEASE SHARE THE MESSAGE!
