Foam egg containers are often seen as disposable, but they can be repurposed in many creative and practical ways.

Here are 10 ideas to make use of foam egg containers:

1. Seed Starter Trays: Use the individual compartments to start seedlings. Fill each space with soil and plant seeds. The compartments help keep them organized, and you can easily move the trays around.

2. Craft Organizer: Use the container to store small craft supplies like buttons, beads, pins, or small bolts and screws. The sections keep items separate and easy to find.

3. Paint Palette: If you're into painting, you can use foam egg containers as paint palettes. The compartments are perfect for holding different colors of paint or mixing custom shades.

4. Jewelry Holder: Store small jewelry pieces like earrings, rings, and necklaces in each section to keep them organized and tangle-free.

5. Mini Planters: Turn the foam container into a small planter for succulents or herbs. Simply add soil and plant your favorite small plants in each compartment.

6. Pet Food Scoop: Use a foam egg carton to store dry pet food. You can also cut out the individual cups and use them as scoops for portion control.

7. Organize Small Tools: Use the container to organize small tools in your workshop or garage, such as nails, screws, washers, and other hardware.

8. Gift Box or Packaging: If you're giving small items as a gift, such as homemade chocolates or jewelry, a foam egg carton can serve as a creative and eco-friendly packaging solution.

9. Egg Crate Sound Absorber: Cut the foam into pieces and use them as soundproofing material. It can help reduce noise in a small room or studio by placing the pieces strategically on walls.

10. Frozen Ice Cubes for Coolers: Fill the compartments with water and freeze them to create individual ice cubes that can fit perfectly in a cooler, or use them for serving drinks at a party without diluting them too quickly.

These ideas help reduce waste by repurposing foam egg cartons while offering practical uses around the home or for craft and gardening projects!

What's scarier than things that could be recycled ending up in the trash?! Not much, which is why the library is partnering with TerraCycle Rhode Island to help keep these things out of the waste stream:
Brita products (dispensers, pitchers, bottles, filters, and filter packaging)

Hasbro brand toys ( go tohttps://dva1blx501zrw.cloudfront.net/download_resources/us/downloads/3667/Hasbro_Toy_list_04032018_Final.pdf ) for a list

Bic and other brands of highlighters, pens, glue sticks, markers, mechanical pencils, and watercolor trays

Just bring them by and look for the tall cardboard bins next to the copy machine! We'll do the rest. The best part is that, for each piece of waste collected, TerraCycle RI will contribute to the RI Community Food Bank. Everyone wins!
