Effective 9/1/23, BSA changed its national adult supervision requirements for ScoutsBSA to include “All adults staying overnight in connection with a Scouting activity must be currently registered as an adult volunteer or an adult program participant.” That means all adult leaders staying overnight on one of camping trips needs to be BSA registered. This is to ensure that all adults on overnight trips are trained, background checked, and covered by insurance. Registration applications is now completed online, although it includes a form (CORI form for State of Massachusetts) you will need to print, fill out, and upload. You will also be required to take the BSA youth protection training as part of the process. The annual cost for adults is $75 ($60 to national and $15 to Narragansett Council). If you would like to attend camping trips as an adult volunteer and are not already registered, please begin the registration process as soon as you can. Please note if you are currently registered with our Cub Scout pack that “counts” as registered. The adult online registration process is new this year, so I can’t tell you 100% how it will work. At some point it should ask you to pick a leadership position, which would be Committee Member. Please register under either the boy or girl troop, whichever one you have a child in. Please use the appropriate link below, and make sure the unit name shown in quotes appears at the top of the screen. Pick the “Adult” icon, click “Start” and follow the instructions. If you don’t see that when you follow the link, or you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me for help ([[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) / 401-527-9949)
