We are excited to announce the Mid State Cloggers of Shelbyville,TN are joining us at our 5th Annual Strawberry Festival! They will show off this uniquely American form of dance from 11:30-12:30pm on May 13th by the Well House in the center of our Historic Wartrace town square. Here's a little history about the Tennessee tradition of Clogging:

"Clogging is a truly American dance form that began in the Appalachian Mountains and now enjoys widespread popularity throughout the United States and around the world.

As the Appalachians were settled in the mid 1700โ€™s by the Irish, Scottish, English and Dutch-Germans, the folk dances of each area met and began to combine in an impromptu foot-tapping style, the beginning of clog dancing as we know it today. Accompanied by rousing fiddle and bluegrass music, clogging was a means of personal expression in a land of newfound freedoms.

The word 'Clog' comes from the Gaelic, and means "time". Clogging is a dance that is done in time with the music -to the downbeat usually with the heel keeping rhythm."

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the Town Hall meeting tonight in support of having the Music Festival on the square! Your presence was was much appreciated. And thank you to Fred Reilly for representing us and the Music Festival so well. The town council will vote Monday on whether to allow the Music Festival to be on the square or not. If they deny us we will have to move it off location again but we are hoping that won't be the case.
