The American Legion Post 49 Family is proud to donate $500 to Shriners Children’s Hospital to help support the incredible care they provide to children and families.

This is what our Legion Family is all about—service, compassion, and coming together to make a difference beyond the walls of our Post.

We’re grateful for everyone who supports our events, fundraisers, and programs. Your support allows us to turn generosity into action and help organizations doing meaningful work.

While our Sons of the American Legion are busy serving up their Pork Chop Drive-Thru, the Auxiliary will be holding a BAKE SALE! 🎂🍪🥧

We’re asking our Auxiliary members to help us fill the table with your favorite homemade goodies. Cookies, brownies, pies, cakes, breads—whatever you love to bake, we’d love to have it!

❤️ Bake it. Bring it. Help us make the table impossible to walk past!

September 11, 2001, is a day forever written on the heart of our nation.

Today, John C. Peterson American Legion Auxiliary Unit 49 remembers the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the men and women who answered our nation’s call to serve in the days and years that followed.

We also remember what happened after the tragedy.

America came together.

Neighbors helped neighbors. Strangers became friends. Flags flew from porches and businesses. Communities prayed together. And despite our differences, we remembered that we were Americans first.

As members of the American Legion Auxiliary, remembrance must be more than something we say—it should inspire how we serve.

So today, we encourage our community to honor September 11 through an act of kindness or service. Thank a first responder. Check on a veteran. Help a neighbor. Pray for a military family. Fly your flag proudly. Be the reason someone is reminded that they are not alone.

We cannot change what happened on September 11, 2001.

But we can choose what we carry forward from it:

❤️ Compassion.
🤍 Service.
💙 Unity.

May we honor their lives by continuing to serve the country and communities they called home.

Some people serve their country for a few years. Others spend a lifetime serving their community. Forrest Kantner did both.

From 1953–1955, Forrest proudly served in the United States Army, including service in Korea as a Combat Engineer with the 73rd Engineer Combat Battalion, 7th Infantry Division.

After his honorable discharge, Forrest returned home and continued building a life of service. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Agriculture and became a teacher.

Forrest spent his career investing in young people, teaching at Tippecanoe Valley High School until his retirement in 1985.

🇺🇸 He built bridges in Korea. He built futures in the classroom. And he left a legacy that reaches far beyond his years of service.

Today, we remember and honor Forrest not only for the uniform he wore, but for the lives he touched and the difference he made.

Thank you, Forrest Kantner, for serving our nation, educating our youth, and leaving our community better than you found it.
