OK, well, yesterday may have been National Picnic Day - but our Aktion Club had their annual picnic TODAY.

We celebrated with mixed emotions because this also marked the final meeting for past president and founding member Jordan Nieto. Jordan is moving out of the area and will be deeply missed by us all - what a great president, participating member, and leader he has been! Thank you, Jordan!

Here are a few photos from today, and a video of Jordan's final ring of the Kiwanis Aktion Club Bell. ♥

This in from Assistant Director of Residential Services Tammy Shidler who has been doing an amazing job nurturing our Beyond Boundaries program:

I want to give a huge shout out and kudos to Residential Manager, April Oberkrom and two of her staff, Nadine and Christyn. They organized a birthday party for two gentlemen, Cody and Keynan, who share the same birthday! 😀🎂🎉

Several Cardinal participants came to celebrate the day and enjoy the splash pad, bubble time, music, and cake! 🎂🎂🎂 We had several members of the community join us, too! We even had our summer volunteer, Olivia, join us on her first day - welcome Olivia! 😀There were approximately 60 people in attendance and a great day was had by all!

Great job - kudos to all!! I am so proud of everyone!

Happy Birthday Cody and Keynan! ♥

The zoo season is well underway! This week Brian, Ky, Shawn, Morgan and Marcy had great fun together at the Fort Wayne Zoo . They beat the rain and had a terrific time - they even got to ride the newly refurbished Z.O.& O. Railroad train!

Kudos to DSP Brian Sullivan for (once again!) planning a perfect day for all👍😀

Not sure about RedBird Art Studio at first, Jordan has discovered that he does indeed have an artistic streak.😀 He's been learning about how to load up a brush with paint to use it on the canvas. Here he is proudly showing us the wolf he just painted. Good job, Jordan! So wonderful trying and learning new things ♥

Billie and Ian are both active members of Cardinal's LEGO Club so when offered the opportunity to go to the Library LEGO event yesterday at the Warsaw Community Public Library, they were more than happy to attend! Doing a LEGO build at Cardinal is great, but doing it out in the community, at the library with others, is the best!

Thank you, WCPL, for your engaging and inclusive programming! ♥

Ky has built a wonderful friendship with Kira Lace Hawkins (Wagon Wheel's Outreach & Education Director) as they worked together on Cardinal's Performing Arts Club spring shows. Last week, she generously arranged complimentary tickets so that he and DSP Brian Sullivan could enjoy the performance of CATS together. They even got to visit with Kira after the show and got this photo ♥

Thank you, Kira and Brian, for helping to make this special experience possible and for supporting Ky's continued passion for the Performing Arts. Opportunities like these create meaningful memories and foster valuable community connections. We ❤Wagon Wheel! Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts

DSP Peggy Moss couldn’t wait to share this from the weekend:

It was a great cultural experience for Bri, Heather, Kate, Bonnie, and myself at the German Fest at Headwaters Park in Fort Wayne on Saturday! The ladies enjoyed learning about differences in cultures such as language, lifestyle, food, dress, and music. Everyone had a great time. Heather spoke to several officers who know her family member who served on the FWPD and thanked them for their protection of the festival. Bri said she LOVED learning about German culture and listening to the music. Kate bought a pretty blue necklace representing German style. And Bonnie simply had us cackling with her chicken hat, which by the way, we were told is a hat worn by tourists. It’s not true German culture.

On our trek back to Warsaw, “cackling” abounded as a pickup truck pulled up beside us with the driver enthusiastically laughing while giving Bonnie two thumbs up for her chicken hat…who has been lovingly named Clucky Duck, although he’s a chicken. Made everyone’s day!

We all fully agreed that today was an amazing day! The ladies would like to encourage others to participate in cultural events like German Fest. “You’re never going to learn, unless you get out and live!”

We were honored to be invited to the Knights of Columbus tonight to accept their donation. Their annual Tootsie Roll Drive has benefited Cardinal Services and the people we serve for decades. Director of Development Madison Craven accepted a check for $13,614.44 from incoming Tootsie Roll coordinator, JC Aguilar.

Thank you, Knights, and thank you to our community members who are always so supportive and generous! ❤️

Also accepting checks tonight was Michael Kuhn of The Magical Meadows and Eric Fletcher of Special Olympics Indiana-Kosciusko County

All our thanks, again, to the Knights for making this a great community for people of all abilities!
