🚑🚑 Critical Care Intake 🚑🚑
Cute kittens get all the attention… but there’s a big reason we called ourselves 10th Life. Sometimes, cats use up their 9 lives but aren’t ready to throw in the towel. Case and point: a handsome void we’ve lovingly dubbed Chance.
Buckle up for this emotional little joyride.
Friday afternoon, a Good Samaritan came across a cat laying in the road who had obviously been hit by a car and was in critical condition. His injuries were substantial, with clear severe head trauma. She took him home to offer him a comfortable place to pass. An admirable action. 🙏
But he made it through the night.
She offered him some water. He drank. But she still expected him to pass.
But, again, he made it through the following night. She continued doing what she knew to do for him, trying to make him comfortable. He showed no interest in food, but readily drank water. He had healthy looking bowel movements. He began acknowledging her when she entered the room, and sometimes he would talk to her. He began to move around.
At this point, the finder was beginning to panic. The cat either needed medical assistance or to cross the rainbow bridge. Her “simple” compassionate deed had become very complicated. She lacked the knowledge or resources to rehabilitate him on her own, and there was no way she could afford an emergency vet bill. She had been trying to figure out who to contact for assistance through social media, but all shelters and rescues were full.
But she knew he did not want to give up, yet.
She also knew she could not allow him to suffer any further.
Yesterday afternoon, our Good Samaritan found her way to us.
Initially, euthanasia was recommended, until we realized he had spent the better part of 4 days holding on and showing he had the will to make it.
And we decided to give him the best chance we could.
For the cats who never give up the fight to live, for the caring Good Samaritans who never give up the search until they find help, for everyone who loves cats: this is Chance’s 10th Life.
Chance’s prognosis is still very guarded. Between the head trauma and the maggots infesting his injuries, he’s in rough shape.
But that will to live, to fight for this 10th life, is shining through. And that’s all we can see right now.
*This video of Chance is approximately 20 hours after intake, making friends with his new foster mom’s cat, Steven. His initial intake/settle in video will be in the comments.
Please, follow, like, comment, and share.
And ask all the crazy cat people you know to do the same.
