There have been 5 devastating hot car deaths before summer has even officially begun. 🚘💔

Parents — it takes less than a minute to build a life-saving routine:
🧸 Keep a stuffed animal in the front seat as a visual reminder
🎒 Leave an important item in the back seat so you have to check
🔑 Keep your car locked at home so kids can’t crawl inside and get trapped

How to Tell If Your Newborn Is Hungry vs Tired 👶🍼😴

Because every cry sounds the same at first — but the cues are different.

✨ Signs Your Newborn Is HUNGRY 🍼 Early hunger cues are subtle and easy to miss.
1️⃣ Rooting & Turning Head: Baby turns their head side to side or opens their mouth when their cheek is touched — they’re searching for food.

2️⃣ Sucking Motions or Hands to Mouth: Lip smacking, sucking fists, or sticking out the tongue usually means hunger, not comfort.

3️⃣ Increasing Fussiness That Escalates: Hunger cries often build slowly and get louder if feeding is delayed.

✨ Signs Your Newborn Is TIRED 😴 Tired cues often appear before full crying begins.
1️⃣ Red or Heavy Eyelids: Droopy eyes, slow blinking, or brief eye contact followed by looking away = over stimulation.

2️⃣ Yawning, Staring, or Losing Interest: Baby may stare off, stop engaging, or yawn — signs their brain needs rest.

3️⃣ Jerky Movements or Arching: Overtired babies may flail arms, stiffen, or arch their back instead of settling.

✨ What If You’re Not Sure? 🤍
Try feeding first — hunger is easier to fix. If baby feeds briefly and pulls away, they were likely tired.

A Helpful Tip 🌿
Catching cues early prevents overtired or frantic crying — watch body language, not just tears.

Learning your baby’s cues takes time — and that’s normal.

If something doesn’t feel right or feeding seems difficult, always contact your pediatrician. You’re not guessing — you’re learning.

This is the power of home visiting.

“I remember sitting on the living room floor with a young mother who was terrified.

Her toddler was just beginning to experiment with sounds, right on the cusp of verbal expression. But instead of excitement, she felt dread. Her older child had struggled with speech delays, and she carried deep shame, convinced she had done something wrong. She was afraid she was about to repeat the same story.

Over several visits, we talked about how language is acquired. […] Within weeks, that toddler went from a few tentative sounds to multiple signs… then a handful of new words.

But the most powerful transformation wasn’t the toddler’s vocabulary. It was his mother.

I watched a woman who doubted herself, who feared recreating the neglect she experienced in her own childhood, grow into a confident, joyful parent.”

-Sarah, Family Support Specialist

Sometimes the biggest transformation isn’t what happens with a child. It’s what happens within a parent.

Home visitors create trusted relationships where parents feel supported, encouraged, and empowered to see their own strengths. Through consistent connection and compassionate support, families are reminded that they do not have to navigate parenting alone.

To every parent carrying doubt or questioning whether they are enough:

💙 You are learning.
💙 You are showing up.
💙 You are growing.
💙 You are building something meaningful every day.
