Scouting America and Random House Children’s Books have officially released the book trailer for George Goodwin, Dragon Slayer: A Scouting Legend. The story follows a young Scout on a journey that blends fantasy, adventure, and the values that have shaped the Scouting movement for more than a century.

The trailer features early endorsements from Bear Grylls, Max Lucado, and Mike Rowe, along with early media attention from People and the New York Sun. It is a high-energy preview of a story built around courage, character, and determination, and it arrives just one month before the nationwide release on May 5, 2026.

The goal behind this project is simple. We want to inspire the next generation to think bigger, imagine more, and see themselves as the heroes in their own stories. If this book sparks even one young reader to believe they are capable of more than they thought, it will be worth it.

Trash does not have to be in the water to pollute our rivers and lakes. A plastic bottle left in a park or a fast-food bag near a drainage ditch can easily end up in a stream. That is why Scouts are stepping up again this year with the Scouting for Clean Waterways initiative, which kicks off April 1 for Earth Day.

Last year alone, thousands of Scouts took part in more than 1,100 projects and removed nearly 130,000 pounds of trash, including over 53,000 pounds of plastic. The initiative encourages Scouts to reduce plastic use, recycle when possible, and clean up their communities while tracking the impact through Scoutbook+. Units of all ages can participate with simple cleanup projects in parks, neighborhoods, and around local waterways.

Scoutbook just rolled out a small update that will make a big difference for leaders and parents who manage awards.

The sequencing for National Outdoor Achievement Award (NOAA) devices and Eagle Palms has been cleaned up, and everything is now much easier to manage. At the top of the Awards page, you will now see simple dropdown options for both, which makes selecting and organizing them much faster.

If you have ever spent extra time trying to make sure Eagle Palms or NOAA devices were entered in the correct order, this update should save you time and reduce confusion.

Take a minute to check the Awards page the next time you log in and try out the new dropdowns. It is a simple change, but one that should make record-keeping a lot smoother for everyone.

Long before he became Chief Scout Executive, President and CEO of , Roger Krone was a .

Like before him – and so many after! – Roger experienced the thrill of (PWD) firsthand. From sanding wood, to aligning wheels, to choosing the right paint – he worked alongside his dad to build a car each year he was in Cub Scouts.

Race days came and went, bringing excitement, competition and comradery. The lessons and values Roger learned from PWD, however? They helped shape him into the leader he is today.

Problem-solving, creativity, good sportsmanship, patience – Cub Scouts see it all throughout the Pinewood Derby process. And, as Roger’s snapshots demonstrate, these moments – no matter how small they may seem at the time – can make a lasting impact for years to come.
