When a veterinarian graduates, they take an oath. That oath includes the commitment “to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health and welfare, the prevention and relief of animal suffering, the conservation of animal resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge.”
Animal Lifeline has worked with countless caring veterinary professionals throughout the years. The work they do is hard, often emotional, and rarely glamorous. Yet there are still professionals showing up every day with humility, skill, and humanity for animals and the people trying to help them. That kind of commitment deserves to be recognized.
Today we recognize last weekend’s free spay and neuter clinic provided by the Doylestown Animal Medical Clinic. It was an honor to work alongside the visiting and in-house clinical and support staff to provide humane care for cats from Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia, and Lehigh counties.
They supported Good Samaritans helping stray cats and rescues. Their professional volunteerism provided care to cats that will live healthier lives, helped decrease cat overpopulation, and helped move cats and kittens into adoption programs faster due to the backlog of clinic space.
It was also impressive to see newer veterinarians and technicians learning alongside highly trained surgeons willing to share their knowledge and experience, and support staff kindly donating their time to pull the event together!
As the end of the day approached and cats were being picked up, we noticed Dr. John Marcus scrubbing floors side by side with staff after most of the volunteers had already gone home. That quiet leadership says a lot.
Cheers to both Dr. Marcus and his wife and co-owner of the practice, Angela Marcus, for creating an effective and humane solution for cats in crisis. Our community is lucky to have you.
