Dysphagia Research Society

The Dysphagia Research Society aims to enhance and encourage research pertinent to normal and disordered swallowing and related functions.

The Annual Meeting: The meeting is attended by clinicians, researchers, resident physicians, fellows and students from a wide range of disciplines, including gastroenterology, neurology, otolaryngology, radiology, speech-language pathology, nutrition, biomedical engineering, dentistry, pediatrics, psychology, nursing and basic sciences. The course provides an excellent opportunity for clinicians t

o gain an understanding of the scientific basis for the evaluation and treatment of patients with dysphagia and aspiration due to a variety of causes.

Last week’s Dysphagia Research Society meeting was a tremendous success, and we want to take a moment to recognize the leadership behind it👏

“I just wanted to take a brief moment to thank and acknowledge Dr. Plowman and all the incredible work she has done in service of the DRS for this year’s meeting. She had a clear vision for this meeting, and has worked relentlessly to bring that vision to life. Her vision centered on a couple of main points: a welcoming environment, excellent science, and a focus on lifting up our trainee and early career members. She wanted to bring a fresh perspective to the table, and planned a truly exceptional pre-conference with some of the most multidisciplinary speakers we’ve ever had the pleasure of hosting from a variety of disciplines outside the ‘typical’ Dysphagia perspective. Carrying that sense of inclusive spirit into the main conference, each detail was planned with the attendees in mind - starting with a complimentary presidents reception where are were welcome to join, network and reconnect with good colleagues and friends. This spirit of inclusivity spirit extended into the virtual aspects of the meeting - Dr. Plowman was incredibly forward thinking in light of the increasingly challenging times many are facing when it comes to travel, particularly for those of our members from outside our borders, to still allow those unable to attend in person to join and engage virtually and even participate in scientific exchange through our virtual poster platform. None of these changes in the traditional format were easy, but Dr. Plowman’s commitment to wanting this to be the best possible experience for the attendees helped bring that initial vision to life. I couldn’t let the meeting pass without taking a moment to stop and celebrate Dr. Plowman’s hard work and accomplishment in creating an absolutely fabulous 34th annual meeting. The Meeting was a HUGE succes! We would like to thank our FANTASTIC President Dr. Emily Plowman for her incredible leadership throughout the entire year.

We would also like to thank ALL of the Board of Directors, committee chairs, and committee members for the many volunteer hours they contributed to .

In addition, we express our gratitude to Affinity Strategies for their expertise in managing our society and all their very hard work!

We are also so grateful to our amazing partners for their support!

And last but not least, we would like to thank ALL of the attendees for joining us this week!
