🔑 : On October 22, 1777, Connecticut soldier Joseph Plumb Martin arrived at besieged Fort Mifflin on the Delaware River. With limited food, clothing, and supplies, Martin and approximately 500 fellow soldiers endured weeks of intense British bombardment before evacuating on November 16. The survivors marched on to the harsh winter encampment at Valley Forge. Martin served until the end of the Revolutionary War and later documented his experiences, describing Fort Mifflin as his most difficult trial of the war.

The CMM was well represented at Monday's Yorktown events. The day began with a memorial service for Gov. Thomas Nelson, Jr. at the historic Grace Episcopal Church, then moved on to the Yorktown Day Parade. Many thanks to compatriot Tom Roth for his images.

Last night, at Pepper's Grille in Culpeper, VA, the CMM hosted its annual Community Service Awards banquet. Chapter president Mark Crain and treasurer Tim Hamill presented medals to 28 heroes from the Town of Culpeper Police Dept., Culpeper County Sheriff's Dept., the Virginia State Police, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the Rappahannock County Sheriff's Office, the ALS 1400, Company 3 of the Amissville Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Company 1 of the Washington Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and Company 2 of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department. All were invited to bring their families and close friends to view the proceedings and share a catered meal.

🔑 : On October 20, 1774, the First Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Association, establishing a united colonial boycott of British goods in protest of the Coercive Acts. This landmark act of cooperation helped pave the way for American independence.
