A secret mission. A staged desertion. A plot to capture Benedict Arnold.

In 1780, Gen. George Washington and Henry "Light-Horse Harry" Lee picked Loudoun County's Sgt. Maj. John Champe for a top-secret mission: capture Benedict Arnold to bring him to justice.

To pull it off, Champe staged a desertion and soon entered British Army undercover. When a last-minute change of ruined the plans to capture Arnold, Champe pivoted and spent months gathering vital intelligence before escaping back to his unit in 1781.

Want the full story behind Champe's daring, covert mission? Join us on September 17 at 7:00pm at Loudoun Museum! David Welker, historian of the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter SAR, brings to life the story of Champe through his first-person interpretation. Free admission, RSVP encouraged: bit.ly/johnchampe
