The unpredictability, and uncertainty of 2020 has certainly continued. The extreme heat with limited precipitation through the summer months has many local golf courses struggling. Fauquier Springs has been hit extremely hard, and as many of you know, has recently gone through a second straight year of extensive renovations. The greens have been temporarily closed to allow for re-seeding with a more heat tolerant grass species. Because of this, the course has postponed all events until at least the middle of October. We have been in direct contact with the staff at the course, and have decided to reschedule our event for Friday, October 30th, 2020. This will still be a 9 AM registration with a 10 AM shotgun start.
When we heard of the course's renovations plans, our family was upset, and debated on potentially utilizing an alternate course for this year's event. However, the sentimental value of what this course meant to Gerry far outweighed the positives of selecting an alternate course. The last time I saw Dad was playing a round with him on Father's Day a few days before his death back in 2014. We hope you understand and appreciate this, as we understand this rescheduling is a potential inconvenience for some of you. We also understand the disruption playing "cart path only" was last year to everyone's round, and are optimistic, giving the course a few extra weeks of recovery will prevent this in 2020.
If you and your team could please check your calendars and confirm that you are still available for the newly rescheduled date of 10/30/20. If you are not, we will certainly make refund options available. Also, because our event is so large, the course has to rent surplus carts each year. If anyone has any COVID related concerns with sharing a cart with someone on their team, and would request a separate cart, please also make me aware of that by September 15th, 2020 to allow for ordering of additional carts.
We will distribute subsequent information closer to the event, in response to current CDC guidelines to minimize exposure to our volunteers at check in and on the course. Items we will try to minimize direct contact will be registration, mulligan purchasing, Dollars for Debbie, etc. I am still working with the catering staff to determine any other tweaks we will need to make to our event. With that being said, if you have not paid for the event yet, please work to do that in the near future, as payments for the round the morning of the tournament will not be allowed.
I cannot thank everyone enough for their continued support to our cause in honoring a great man. We look forward to seeing everyone this fall, and appreciate everyone's flexibility and understanding. As always feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions.
