On Tuesday, March 24th, Robin Jackson and Caroline Hundley visited the Warrenton Rotary Club to provide an introduction to the new Warren YES School and Warren Little Explorers Preschool.

Robin Jackson, the new head of the Warren YES School, announced that the school will eventually be located in the former Norlina School building. The building requires extensive renovations, necessitating the construction of ten modular classrooms and the utilization of one of the brick buildings for classes during the renovation process. The school will be situated across Center Street in front of the baseball court. Initially, the school will offer kindergarten through sixth grade, with the addition of a new grade each subsequent year, culminating in a twelfth-grade program. Consequently, the school will eventually become a K-12 institution. The school will adopt an engaging educational approach that emphasizes critical thinking and discussion among students. Students will be taught effective communication skills, enabling them to engage in respectful conversations on diverse topics. The inaugural class will commence on August 24, 2026.

Caroline Hundley is establishing a new preschool across from Tar Heel Tires, named Warren Little Explorers. She will collaborate with the Warren YES School and will initially offer four classrooms catering to one-year-olds, two-year-olds, three-year-olds, and four- and five-year-olds.

On Saturday March 28th, some of the Rotary members met at the Lake Gaston Coffee Company downtown for breakfast and coffee before heading over to the Jacob Holt house to repair the porch. We got started around 9am and finished around 2:45 or so. The first photo shows the before photo and the last photo is the finished product. As can be seen in the last photo, the bottom of the last column was rotten. George Humphries will be fixing that at a later date as we did not have the materials to fix it on Saturday. We also have some trim and paint work to do as well but that will be a future project. The main point Saturday was to replace the rotted boards. The porch now feels a lot sturdier and safer. The boards we used were donated to us by Mike Aycock before he passed away.

Helping today were Butch Meek, George Humphries, Richard Hunter, Patrick Raiford, and Roger Greisinger cooked lunch for us. Fabian Martinez also helped with the nailing of the boards and adding the temporary support of the roof while we worked on the porch.

On Tuesday Feb 10, 2026, Rotary prepared dinner and had a special thank you award for the guys who helped with getting the 2025 Christmas Parade up and running. Special thanks to Greg Henry for helping us find the portable lights to help light up some of the areas in town during the parade. Rotary works with Michael Coffman and the town to help setup the staging area for the floats and parade members and to release them into the parade route at the right time. Police Chief David Elliot makes sure we have the traffic situation under control. Karl Heil helps us make sure the fire departments are here for the parade and makes sure they are aware of any instructions that we may need to give them before the parade time. Also thank you to the Warrenton Radio Station WARR-1520 AM for broadcasting the parade this year.
