4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills.

🎖❗️ STATE CONTEST RESULTS❗️🍀

Last week, the Fauquier 4-H Livestock Judging Teams competed in the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest. We came home with several awards, including the STATE CHAMPION BANNER earned by Sedona Sifford!

The Senior Team of Ali Yankey, Sedona Sifford, and Beth Yankey placed:
8th in Sheep/Goats
6th in Swine
6th in Cattle
9th in Reasons
7th Overall

Individually,
Sedona placed:
5th in Swine 🐖
1st in Cattle 🐂
5th in Reasons 🎤
1st Overall! 🎖

Ali placed:
6th in Sheep/Goats 🐑🐏
17th Overall! 🎖

Both Sedona and Ali earned an invitation to travel and practice with and try out for the Virginia State Team this summer and fall.

The Junior Team of C**t Baer, Jack Grove, and Spencer Baer placed in the top 20 teams in every category and did great in their first State Contest!

We are so proud of the hard work these kids put in each week. Congratulations to these members and their coach Mary Ott!

CONGRATULATIONS | Show & Sale Carcass Champions 👏

The Fauquier Livestock Show & Sale is a terminal project - meaning these animals are raised specifically for meat. All market animals go through an ultrasound process to get data on their carcass merit, including traits such as Back Fat thickness, Rib Eye Area, Loin Eye Area, and others. Animals are ranked on these traits and their grading score according to the current market for our Carcass Contest.

The Rate of Gain contest is based on the average daily gain of market animals during their growing season (180 days for beef; 90 days for sheep and goats). Check out the gains made by our 2026 Show & Sale animals!
