On February 28, 2026, at approximately 9:15pm, officers with the Warrenton Police Department were dispatched to the State Highway 47 overpass in regard to a suicidal juvenile threatening to jump onto Interstate 70.
Upon arrival, officers located the juvenile straddling the concrete barrier of the overpass and clearly experiencing a mental health crisis. Officers immediately began speaking with the juvenile in an effort to build rapport and safely de-escalate the situation. Additional resources were requested, including a negotiator with Wright City Police Department and the assistance of Missouri State Highway Patrol to shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 at 47 and directing traffic away from the scene.
While speaking with the juvenile and establishing a plan of action to safely get him off the barrier, Corporal Bittick with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department arrived on scene and continued efforts to communicate with the juvenile. In time, Corporal Bittick was able to successfully guide the juvenile off the ledge and into safety, ultimately embracing the juvenile in a hug.
The juvenile was taken into custody safely and provided appropriate medical and mental health assistance.
We would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance:
Warren County MO Sheriff's Department
Warren County Ambulance District
Warrenton Fire Protection District
Truesdale Police Dept.

And a special thanks to Corporal Bittick. His ability to connect with the juvenile in a critical moment made a meaningful difference and helped bring the situation to a safe conclusion.
