The weekend of September 11-13, four members of the Warren County 4-H program attended the 2026 NYS 4-H Shooting Sports Championship. Members included Lacey and Makayla H. from Brant Lake, Tyler B from Lake Luzerne, and Sadie K., also from Chestertown.
The youth participated in three divisions, IBO 3-D (unmarked ranges), Field Archery (up to 30 yards), and FITA (World Archery) which is shot in meters up to 60 for youth. In this case, subjuniors (ages 8-11) shoot from 10, 20, 30, and 40 meters. Juniors (ages 12-14) shoot between 20-50 meters and Seniors (ages 15-18) who shoot 30-60 meters. The targets in FITA vary in size by distance.
In the Junior Compound bow division, Tyler placed first in 3-D and Field Archery and second in FITA. Lacey placed 2nd in 3-D and 3rd in Field Archery and FITA. Sadie placed first in 3-D, Field, and FITA for Sub-Juniors. Makayla H also shot well in the sub-juniors.
The team would like to thank a 5th member, Lily S, who was at a live Notre Dame game for her birthday this weekend, as she designed and silk screened the team shirts. She will be joining the group in 2027.
We would also like to thank and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County, as well as the Bath Rod & Gun Club for hosting the event.
