Missouri Boys State Alumni Association proudly congratulates alumnus and longtime staff member Dale Wright on his new role at the University of Illinois.

Dale attended The American Legion Boys State of Missouri, Inc. in 1993 as a citizen from Kennett High School, where he was elected Mayor of Smith City (now Whitfield City). For nearly 30 years, he has continued to serve the program in many roles, including as Dean of Counselors and currently as a member of the Executive Council.

His service doesn’t stop with Boys State, and we’re thrilled to see him continue making an impact at the University of Illinois.

We’re incredibly proud to see Boys State leaders continue making a difference. Congratulations, Dale!

Recognizing 1990 MBS alumnus for his selection as Rolla Public Schools Superintendent. Congrats, Dr. Kyle Dare for continuing the spirit of service and tradition of excellence through The American Legion Boys State of Missouri, Inc. (and Crowder City of course!)

The Rolla Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Kyle Dare as the Rolla Public Schools Superintendent, effective July 1, 2023. Dr. Dare has been with the Rolla School District since 2018, first as the Assistant Superintendent and then as the Deputy Superintendent (2020), overseeing human resources and district operations; including buildings and grounds, maintenance, food service, and transportation

Dr. Dare is originally from Marshfield, MO. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and a Master's and Specialist Degree in School Administration from Southeast Missouri State University. He completed his Doctorate of Education at Mizzou in 2013. Dr. Dare began his career in Puxico, MO as a Band Director in 1997. From 2003 to 2009, he served as the Puxico High School Principal and Activities Director, then assumed the role of Puxico Superintendent, where he served from 2009 to 2018.

Dr. Dare is married to his wife Carmel of 28 years, who currently serves as the Culinary Arts Instructor at Rolla Technical Institute. They have two children; Abigail Dare, who graduated from the Nuclear Engineering program at Missouri S&T and currently resides in Pittsburgh, and Nathan Dare, who is a Ph.D. student of Occupational Therapy at Mizzou and lives in Columbia.

“I want to thank the Rolla Board of Education for this opportunity to serve as your Superintendent. We have a lot of work to do in the coming years and we are focused on carrying out school improvement plans, continuing to provide the best educational experience for all students, meeting the needs of our community, and fostering a positive climate and culture for our staff. Rolla has been a wonderful place to live and work, and I look forward to being a part of this community for many years to come.”

Dr. Dare will be assuming the role of Mr. Craig Hounsom, current Superintendent, who will be retiring in June. The district will now begin the search for a new assistant superintendent.

MBS is thrilled to recognize a member of our awesome staff. Congrats Ellie Glenn Harmon, an Echo 25 recipient from Truman State University, recognizing 25 alumni under 40 as examples of "socially responsible leaders and engaged world citizens". Congrats Ellie!

The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of The American Legion Boys State of Missouri announced that Katy Schwartz Drowns, Ed.D has accepted the position of Program and Admissions Coordinator effective today, September 6, 2022. This newly created position will focus on key MBS functions including administration, recruiting, and sponsorships.

The Executive Committee also announced that Jessie Abney will assume the role of Events and Fundraising Coordinator. Her new focus will be on event coordination and administration coupled with developing fundraising strategies to better deliver financial resources for Missouri Boys State.
