Western Missouri Medical Center Foundation

Western Missouri Medical Center Foundation We focus on giving advanced tools & resources necessary for WMMC to provide high-quality local care. The WMMC Foundation was established in 1984.

In 2015 the WMMC Foundation began a reinvigoration process. In addition to adding Board members, part of the seven committees were formed, currently comprised of more than 70 community leaders. Each committee is charged with answering the call to meet the growing health care needs of those we serve – our families, our friends and our neighbors. This reorganization will sharpen our focus in the specific areas of philanthropy and donor stewardship.

Our WMMC providers don’t just care for patients—they help invest in the future of healthcare. 💗

Dr. Giurgius, a board-certified general surgeon at Western Missouri Medical Center with fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, supports the WMMC Foundation because he believes in advancing patient care and improving lives through access to exceptional healthcare.

“The Foundation’s commitment to patient-centered care, community service, and medical excellence aligns closely with my professional values and goals.”

The WMMC Foundation is strengthened by a close and collaborative partnership with hospital leadership — and no one exemplifies that connection more than WMMC CEO & President Darinda Dick.

Since supporting the revitalization of the Foundation in 2016, Darinda has remained one of its most engaged advocates. Her involvement goes well beyond leadership oversight, as she actively participates in Foundation committees, assists with committee recruitment and fundraising efforts, and regularly provides executive updates to Foundation ambassadors. She also plays a key role in strengthening meaningful relationships between the hospital and the community we serve.

Darinda is highly involved in the Major & Special Gifts Committee and is consistently present at fundraising events and initiatives, where she engages with donors and supporters.

She also co-leads many of the Foundation’s Behind-the-Scenes Hospital Tours, offering community members a transparent, firsthand look at the operations of an independent rural hospital. These tours create space for education, collaboration, and open dialogue, helping guests better understand local healthcare and share feedback directly.

Her support extends personally as well, as she is a CAREgiver donor and a member of the Pillar Society, the Foundation’s major giving club.

Darinda is often one of the first points of contact for individuals seeking support or resolution, helping ensure concerns are addressed and care is continually improved at WMMC. Through her leadership, she reflects a strong commitment to compassion, accessibility, and service to both patients and the broader community.

Behind the Scenes at WMMC ✨

The WMMC Foundation recently welcomed Pillar Members and prospective members for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Western Missouri Medical Center.

Guests got a firsthand look inside WMMC and the care, technology, and teamwork that support our community every day.

The tour was led by WMMC President & CEO Darinda Dick, who shared insight into WMMC’s continued growth, the future of healthcare in our region, and how community partnership continues to shape what’s possible.

From innovative technology to the dedicated teams behind patient care, the experience highlighted the impact of local investment in healthcare.

As a rural hospital, WMMC is proud to serve Johnson County, and the WMMC Foundation is honored to partner in supporting that mission.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special experience—and for your continued support of WMMC and the WMMC Foundation. 💙

Some people give because they’ve seen the impact—year after year. 💗

For Rich and Debbie Lawson, that impact spans decades of supporting healthcare in our community.

“My experience with WMMC goes back to the early 1970s when the hospital was working to expand. What was once a small hospital has grown into something much more—now home to outstanding physicians and staff dedicated to healing and saving lives. That’s one of the most important things a community can have.

When the hospital began investing in advanced technology like a PET/CT scanner and early detection tools for breast cancer, it made perfect sense to support those efforts. We have great doctors—let’s make sure they have the best equipment possible. I may not be trained to heal, but I can help by giving to support those who are.”

Today, Rich and Debbie are helping lead the way forward.

💗 They are generously matching all gifts up to $50,000—doubling the impact of every donation.

We’re currently at 60 donors, with a goal of 100—and every gift brings us closer.

Your gift today goes twice as far in supporting life-saving technology through the Empower Through Early Detection Campaign.

A lifetime of care inspires a lifetime of giving. 💗

For Dr. Dave and Jan Glover, their connection to Warrensburg’s medical community spans more than four decades.

“Forty-five years ago, Jan and I moved our family to Warrensburg hoping to enhance the medical community. From the birth of our children to ER visits, surgeries, and access to advancing technology, our family has benefited from our local hospital every step of the way. As we’ve seen it grow, we feel it’s important to give back and support its future.”

From just 12 providers to more than 60 full-time physicians today, WMMC has grown alongside the community it serves.

In this KOKO Radio interview, Dr. Robyn Criswell-Bloom, a WMMC Foundation Board member involved in several committees, speaks on behalf of the WMMC Foundation about the upcoming Day of Giving—and why now is a critical moment to give.

The Day of Giving supports the Empower Through Early Detection campaign, helping advance breast cancer detection and care at WMMC. With improved mammography technology, patients are receiving faster access to life-saving screenings and care when it matters most.

We are just 20% away from reaching our campaign goal, and every gift made during Day of Giving will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000 by Rich and Debbie Lawson, doubling your impact as we work to cross the finish line.

💗 How to give:

Support for local healthcare starts with people who see its impact every day. 💗

For Doug and Donna Warden, that perspective comes from decades of caring for this community.

“As Physical Therapists, we’ve worked with the medical community in Warrensburg for more than 33 years. It’s clear to us how important it is to keep quality medical care close to home. The WMMC Foundation and Pillar Society are an outstanding way to support the sustained growth of our hospital, and the expanding scope of services ensures that care will continue for future generations.”

Their story is a reminder that strong healthcare systems are built—and sustained—by community support.

Following our Day of Giving, you can still be part of the impact. Help strengthen the future of care through the Empower Through Early Detection Campaign. Donate at: https://wmmc.com/foundation/empower/

Everyone has a reason to give. 💗

For Rob Lawrence and Wendy Stallins, their reason is personal.

When Rob suffered a heart attack, the team at WMMC’s Emergency Department acted quickly to stabilize him. During those critical moments, an ER nurse spoke with Wendy over the phone to keep her informed.

“Rob would not be here today without WMMC. Hence, our Pillar Society support.”

Stories like Rob and Wendy’s are a powerful reminder of how important local healthcare is for our community.

On April 28, during our Day of Giving, you can help ensure lifesaving care continues to be available close to home. Your support helps strengthen the care our families, friends, and neighbors rely on every day.
