In case you missed it. Watch the Warrensburg Town Board vote to terminate the land lease and Cipriani Energy withdrawing their application. It's official; there will be no solar farm built in the Hackensack Mountain Park! Thanks to everyone who signed petitions and took the time to write the great comments that helped determine the boards decision. Thanks to the town board members for listening to Warrensburg residents and making it right. Together, we made a difference.🌲

Response to Town Board handling Solar Array Project
My response is this- First let me say that I am friends with each of the town board members but I am disappointed that they have put us in this position. I have yet to speak with one person other than
Supervisor Geraghty and Councilman Alexander that thought this project was a good idea for the town.
We have heard from hundreds of residents, and delivered a written sample of over 200 of them at this month’s meeting, objecting to conversion of parkland to another use which cannot be done without legislative approval. We were all expecting more to be done by the Board to end the project by rescinding the resolution. My only guess is that the threat of legal action by the developer requires that we continue thru the planning board process. If we can't legally do it because it IS a park and would require legislative approval to do it, what's the problem with saying we can't legally do it?

We now must find some way to give the planning board the tools to disapprove the project. If they are required to hold a public hearing, which they are, why would they not also be allowed to take that into account when making their decision to approve or disapprove the application? We will be delivering the same information to the Planning Board that was provided to the Town Board as well as to our legislative representatives and the APA so they all know that the majority of Warrensburg residents and regular users of the trails at Hackensack Mtn Park and Recreation Area disapprove of this project. Until it’s really dead because the developer withdraws their application or it’s disapproved by either the Planning Board or the Adirondack Park Agency, interested parties can log on to Facebook at “” to read about the project and sign the petition or online at https://tinyurl.com/ye6auutl. It’s not too late to let them know what you think.🌲

After approving three recent projects, APA board members seek a more systematic approach for approving new large-scale solar applications.

The Warrensburg Town Board took no action to stop the solar farm at the May 12th meeting https://youtu.be/aft0ULgVwE0, even though they were presented with a printed volume of detailed feedback from residents who oppose the project. There was no motion to rescind the land lease, only recognition that the petition comments and signatures had been received from the public.
Here's a summary of the comments board members received: https://tinyurl.com/yhubt966 After reading these, you'll find it really hard to believe that this proposal is still alive. Believe it! This will now be going to the planning board for review on June 1st at 7PM. The town website calls this a "Public Hearing". Let’s make sure they continue to hear from us!
It's more important than ever that we keep sending emails!

Here's another comment from a local resident:
Placement of a solar farm would destroy the beauty of the mountain and the town. It would be ugly and bad for the environment. It would mean a loss of the park and the recreation it provides to the people in the town and to tourists who come to Warrensburg. Hackensack Mountain is an iconic landmark of the town and it’s natural beauty should not be spoiled. I oppose the plan by the town of Warrensburg to develop a commercial solar farm in a publicly owned park.
