Every year, more than 300 million pairs of shoes end up in landfills. By redirecting used shoes for reuse, you help reduce waste and protect the environment. Some shoes made with polyurethane can release methane gas as they break down, which is even more harmful to the environment than carbon dioxide.

Shoes are made from a combination of materials like leather, rubber, glue, and textiles, making them difficult to recycle properly. That’s why reuse is one of the best solutions for sustainability and social responsibility.

Reusing shoes also saves energy. Burning or grinding shoes for recycling uses more energy and often creates lower-quality materials. Getting shoes into the hands of people and communities who can continue to use them extends their life, reduces waste, and lessens the need to manufacture new shoes.

🌟 Volunteer of the Month – May: Mike DelPrince 🌟
House of Hope is honored to recognize Mike DelPrince as our Volunteer of the Month for May!

Mike first learned about House of Hope through a co-worker 10 years ago and has been faithfully serving ever since spending the last 10 years on our Board and 9 years as our Treasurer.

When asked what “hope” means to him in the context of helping women coming out of prison, Mike shared: “I believe in second chances, support, and family. House of Hope provides an environment to fulfill all of these.”

Mike also goes above and beyond helping with our shoe drive — from picking up shoes, moving heavy bags, and helping load everything onto the truck. His willingness to serve wherever needed is truly appreciated and makes a huge difference for House of Hope.

We are deeply grateful for Mike’s dedication, leadership, and servant’s heart. Thank you, Mike, for being such an important part of the House of Hope family! ❤️
