✊🏾 Honoring Stacie Steward — Leadership • Advocacy • Service

During Black History Month, we proudly recognize Stacie Steward, a dedicated UAW leader whose career reflects unwavering commitment to working people and union solidarity.

Stacie began her journey on the shop floor as a UAW autoworker at Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP). During pivotal and often uncertain moments for the auto industry, she became a respected voice — speaking candidly about the realities workers faced, including layoffs, instability, and the fight to protect jobs and communities.

Her leadership and advocacy paved the way for expanded responsibilities supporting members beyond the plant gates.

✊🏾 UAW Leadership & Service

Over the years, Stacie has served in key roles at the national and international levels. She has been recognized in UAW materials as an Assistant Director in the National FCA/Stellantis Department, contributing to initiatives connected to:

Her work consistently centered on strengthening member support systems and advancing equity within the union.

His election reflects the trust and confidence of the membership in his ability to advocate, lead, and deliver results.

✊🏾 Honoring Eric Fleming — Leadership of UAW Local 7

During Black History Month, UAW Region 1 proudly recognizes Eric Fleming — a leader whose conviction, innovation, and deep commitment to member engagement continue to elevate Local 7.

Across the UAW, one phrase carries instant recognition:

👉🏾 “Big Bank 7.”

And everyone knows — when you hear Big Bank 7, you’re talking about Local 7.

That nickname is not about reputation alone — it reflects a culture of investment in members, leadership development, and visibility that President Fleming has helped strengthen.

Eric’s leadership journey is built on experience and earned respect. He began his union service as a Steward, serving multiple terms advocating directly for members on the shop floor. Through dedication and a deep belief in representation, he continued climbing through leadership, taking on key roles that strengthened both his local and his connection to the membership.

His union path reflects steady growth:

✔️ Steward
✔️ Multiple elected leadership roles
✔️ President — currently serving his third term

Under Eric’s leadership, Local 7 members are everywhere:

✔️ In the community
✔️ In union education classes
✔️ At conferences
✔️ In leadership development programs
✔️ Doing the real work of the union

President Fleming believes opportunities should be shared, not limited. Conferences, trainings, and union programs are treated as investments in the membership — building stronger leaders, more informed members, and a more engaged local.

Local 7’s presence speaks for itself — active, visible, educated, and involved throughout Region 1 and beyond.

Eric’s leadership philosophy remains grounded in a simple but powerful principle:

👉🏾 A member-driven union is a strong union.

He fosters open dialogue, encourages participation, supports committees, and prioritizes communication through newsletters and outreach so members remain informed and empowered.

Beyond his union leadership, Eric brings the same passion to life outside the plant. He enjoys riding his Harley-Davidson Street Glide, cruising in his 1971 Chevelle Convertible, and staying disciplined through regular workouts — reflecting the balance of strength, focus, and authenticity that defines his leadership.

And while Big Bank 7 is Local 7’s widely recognized name, those who know Eric best often describe him with a phrase that perfectly captures his approach:

👉🏾 He stands on business.

Because leadership, accountability, and delivering for members is never taken lightly.

The UAW CAP conference was held last week in Washington, DC. Secretary Treasurer and UAW Women's Department Director Margaret Mock had a strong message for the attendees, where she pulled strength from the women of the UAW sit-down strike, who's strength and fortitude blazed a trail for women in the labor movement. "We didn't wait to lead then, and we will not be waiting now!"
