Garfield Community Gardens

Garfield Community Gardens Garfield Community Garden is an urban garden cooperative. We strive to engage community members in ecological gardening practices. The R.J.

The Garfield Community Garden is located on Woodland St. NE between Perkinswood Blvd NE & Willard Ave. NE on the former Garfield School site. Families have cultivated individual plots there for years. What each registered gardener grows is theirs. Community members are welcome to register for a plot. No one is allowed to pick from the plots but those who invested their hard work in them. Garfield

Garden members also work to improve soil, beautify a meeting area, maintain elevated beds for handicapped gardeners, create a nationally recognized wildlife area(for birds, butterflies, and bees), monitor a nationally recognized Monarch Waystation, grow a public herb garden, and provide educational opportunities for the public. The property is owned by Warren City Schools. We provide gardening and educational experiences for WCS students. Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership provides technical support for the nonprofit Garfield Community Gardens. Wean Foundation has provided support for projects through its Neighborhood SUCCESS Grants. Trumbull 100 has also provided grants. Trumbull County Ohio State Ext. Master Gardener Volunteers provide educational support. If you are interested in getting involved, learning more, and/or making donations to enhance the much used community green space, message us on FB. We do not have a mailing address at our site. GCG is an all volunteer group. No one earns money at this site. All support comes from donations and grants from nonprofit groups. The group gives of its time to provide a neighborhood green space.

🦋 **Butterflies need safe places to sip water and minerals, too.**

Want to create a simple butterfly drinking station? Keep these tips in mind:

1️⃣ **Add rocks or pebbles for landing spots.**
Butterflies prefer dry surfaces where they can perch safely while drinking.

2️⃣ **Keep the water shallow.**
A thin layer of water is all they need. Deep water can be dangerous for small insects.

3️⃣ **Try moist sand or soil.**
Many butterflies are attracted to damp sand or soil because it provides minerals as well as moisture—a behavior known as "puddling."

4️⃣ **Choose a warm, sunny location.**
Butterflies are most active in sunny areas, so place the station where it gets plenty of sunlight.

5️⃣ **Refresh it regularly.**
Replace the water often to keep it clean and help prevent mosquito breeding.

6️⃣ **Use fruit sparingly.**
A small piece of overripe fruit can attract butterflies, but too much may also draw wasps, bees, and other insects.

✨ It’s a simple project, but it can make a real difference. With just a few materials, you can create a welcoming spot that helps butterflies thrive and brings even more life to your garden.
