Here is your friendly Women's Outdoor Workshop registration reminder! June 20th is coming up fast! If you wanted to pre-register for this event, please do so soon. We will extend the deadline to June 7th but final preparations need to be done before the event, so we won't be able to accept pre-registrations right up to the event and you must pre-register so you can be assigned to the classes you want to take that day and instructors can be sure to have enough materials for everyone. The water safety event planned for Sat., May 23 during Pine Grove Days in Russell, PA has been postponed due to Pine Grove Days being postponed with all the rain that's coming tomorrow. We will keep you posted as to when it will be re-scheduled.

We are happy to announce that Penn Soil RC&D is the new organizer of the much-loved Women's Outdoor Workshops (WOW) that took place at Chapman State Park for many years! Our approach to hosting these events will be on a regional basis for the 8 counties in northwest PA that we serve, meaning that we plan to offer several events per year which will rotate around to Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango and Warren Counties, reaching more women and girls.

Our first event this year will take place on Saturday, June 20 at 2 Mile Run Park in Venango County.

We are looking for individuals who would like to volunteer at this event, either as a general event volunteer or to volunteer and offer workshops at this all-day event. If you have a workshop topic that can be presented in an outdoor venue, preferably topics that involve hands-on learning for women and girls ages 12 years old and up, please contact us to discuss your idea. This could include instruction in outdoor sports, arts, crafts, environmental & nature topics to health and wellness.

The deadline to sign up as an instructor for our first event is March 23, 2026, so we can finalize event registration packet materials. Please contact Penn Soil at 814-726-1441 or 814-726-7825, message us through FB or email us at [email protected].

Penn Soil RC&D is pleased to announce that The ANF Centennial GeoTrail is still active even though the grant agreement with Penn Soil RC&D technically ended on December 31, 2025. There are still trackable ANF tokens available and the Forest Service has agreed to continue to redeem passports for anyone completing the trail as long as the tokens are still available. Folks can still redeem their passports at the 3 Forest Service offices in Warren, Marienville, and at the Bradford Ranger District on Route 59 in McKean County. Geocachers need to find five of the 7 ANF Centennial geocaches in each of the four ANF counties: Warren, Forest, Elk, and McKean Counties to qualify. Happy Caching!
