Most of us take preventative maintenance on our vehicles pretty seriously. We change the oil every few thousand miles, check the brakes, rotate the tires, and pay attention to warning lights on the dashboard. We know if we ignore those things long enough, something expensive will eventually break.

But when it comes to our own health, a lot of us do the opposite. We wait until something feels wrong.

Getting a blood screening is really just preventative maintenance for your body.

A cholesterol test is like checking your oil. If it gets too high, it can start causing damage over time.

Blood sugar is similar to your fuel system. If it’s out of balance, the whole engine doesn’t run the way it should.

Kidney and liver tests are like checking your filters. They help remove waste and keep everything running clean.

Electrolytes and minerals are like making sure the fluids in your car are at the right levels.

The point is simple: it’s a lot easier to fix small issues early than it is to deal with a major problem later.

A quick blood screening gives you a snapshot of how things are running under the hood. It’s a simple way to stay ahead of problems instead of reacting to them later.

If you take the time to maintain your vehicle, it probably makes sense to take the time to check on your health too.

Hope to see you on April 25 for the Kiwanis Club of Warren Blood Screening! Sign up at kiwanisofwarrenpa.org.
