Towns of Wrentham and Plainville MA Animal Control
This is a reminder to please be patient with wildlife during these frigid temperatures. Many animals are simply trying to stay warm, just like the rest of us.
We understand that it can be startling and worrisome when wild animals come this close to our homes, and we completely understand those concerns.
This morning, a coyote was found on a Plainville resident’s property near the horses’ run-in shed. The coyote was not acting aggressively and, aside from signs of possible mange, appeared uninjured and able to move around normally.
It is most likely the coyote was seeking the warmth of the shed due to the cold temperatures, and the lack of fur from the mange made being out in the elements even more difficult.
Animal control advised the resident that if the coyote did not move along on its own, assistance would be provided. Fortunately, the coyote eventually moved on by itself. The animal caused no harm and showed no signs of aggression.
We have been keeping tabs on coyotes like this one who appear to have mange, and we are actively working on a plan to get them help when possible. This can be tricky, especially when they are still active and able to move around just fine (they don’t want to be caught!).
We have been working closely with a rehabilitation organization regarding this coyote and several others in town so we can work on getting them the treatment they need!
Please be patient with wildlife during this cold weather. If you have any questions or concerns regarding wildlife, contact your local wildlife rehabilitator
