DSP Special Recognition: Martin Cooper Jr.

Please join us in giving a very special shout-out to Martin Cooper Jr. from Leeda Northeast Inc!

Martin recently joined the field at the end of April, transitioning from factory work to becoming a Direct Support Professional (DSP). Though he is new to the profession, he has already demonstrated extraordinary dedication, professionalism, and compassion.

When an individual in his care experienced a critical situation, Martin remained calm under pressure and took immediate action. He followed emergency procedures, contacted first responders, and provided support until help arrived. His quick thinking and ability to stay focused during a challenging situation made a tremendous difference.

But Martin's dedication didn't stop there. He remained by the individual's side, offering support and reassurance throughout the experience.

The VOICE Meeting this month was hosted by the Leeda Northeast day program with over 120 people in attendance! The topic was Winter Safety. We had a panel of 4 individuals that spoke about different important topics such as hypothermia and frostbite prevention, home safety, vehicle safety, and mental health. All of our speakers did an amazing job and conveyed the message perfectly, I hope everyone left with a little more knowledge than they came with. VOICE Meetings are about Self-Advocacy, which is the skill of speaking up for yourself, understanding your own needs, rights and preferences, and clearly communicating them to others to make informed decisions and get the support you need in all aspects of life, from asking for help in class to advocating for policy changes. Workshops from all over get together and discuss important topics and build relationships with people from other agencies.

Today's panel
