Our Story
Sustainability has become quite the “buzz-word” for environmentalists, businesses and corporations, and academics alike. As is the case with any other word, sustainability means different things to different people. Here at Greening the Sphere, we see sustainability as a concept of developing a closer connection to the earth and its inhabitants, allowing us to understand the earth’s natural processes for mutual benefit. We believe that in order to be truly sustainable, we must be willing to generate ideas that are based in peace, love, and respect and execute them within our communities. We have partnered with local schools to recruit students who are committed to environmental justice and sustainability. Through our Youth Council, we are designing a sustainability festival that will highlight local businesses and organizations that are committed to our cause. Our educational programs aim to draw upon the variety of skills our Youth Council members have and encourage them to develop and implement these skills in order to build a community for the next generation of environmental leaders who are not only committed to, but prepared for, the challenge of greening our sphere. Our Mission is to inspire creative solutions that expand a global awareness of the importance of maintaining a natural balance and respect of all species. We hope to generate an understanding that the resources we use should be available for future generations; and since energy is neither created nor destroyed, its transformation should present the least amount of harm as possible. In order to live in this way, we have to be willing to collaborate and build our communities through relationships that are mutually respectful.
