What if music wasn’t another event to attend, but a way to remember how to live?
On a Sunday morning, Gopal home became SoundTraditions baithak.
Shoes stayed at the door.
Phones stayed silent.
Children found their own rhythm - some listening, some reading, all simply being.
New audience members became a community through shared attention.
Pandit Uday Bhawalkar, with the masterful accompaniment of Pratap Awad Ji on pakhawaj and Kirit Singh on tanpura, took us through the meditative depths of Miyan ki Todi and the luminous expansiveness of Shuddh Sarang. The music asked nothing of us except our presence.
In a world that celebrates speed, perhaps the greatest luxury is to spend a morning without hurrying.
To sit shoulder to shoulder with friends and family.
To witness a tradition carried by living masters.
To allow our children to absorb sanskaars not through instruction, but through experience - seeing adults listen deeply, respect silence, and make space for beauty. Reminding that these intimate baithaks are why SoundTraditions exists. Not simply to present Indian classical music, but to nurture a culture of listening, belonging, and unhurried living.
