BHM25 Day 1: Keeping In Step With Positive Goals
Before we pay tribute to anyone, we’d love to honor the program that inspired our own: The Positive Force Drill Team
A drill and step team residing from Warren, PFDT was originally founded and established on the East Side in 1984 at the S.N. Dulaney Center by proud Warren native, YSU graduate and distinguished member of Phi Beta Sigma member, Mr Wm. Rosselle Burch. During its 30 year existence, The Positive Force Drill team has helped produce over 500 high school graduates, 150 college graduates, 68 Panhellenic organization members and nearly 150 entrepreneurs and business owners. These past students exemplify the meaning behind the drill team’s slogan, ‘keeping in step with positive goals”. The group capitalizes on positive peer pressure and the prestige which results from the honor and recognition of participating in a polished and professional performance team.
The drill team was seen locally as a pre-Greek organization to many of Warren’s generational youth. They would participate in various youth outreach events, step shows, charity projects and parades as well as many other community events. Through the art of Steppin’, PFDT instilled positive values in students by providing them a safe and comfortable environment as an alternative to the harmful street life that many of them only know. It is through this organization they would have the opportunity to experience a sense of accomplishment and pride as they master a performance and receive the attention that all teens desire and deserve. They learned the meaning of hard work, teamwork and independence.
In February 2014, PFDT Founder and director Rosselle Burch passed away. We now use the solid foundation obtained through our founder’s experience with PFDT to expand and prosper.
