Breanna (Brea) Ullman, a native of Driftwood, returned to western Pennsylvania in 2021 and today serves as an Assistant Manager and Paramedic for St. Marys Area Ambulance Service Inc. Ullman has been working in public safety for over 15 years and completed her certification to become an emergency medical technician while in high school. She later completed her paramedic certificate program at the Center for Rural EMS Education Consortium in Indiana, Pennsylvania in 2016 and has been working as a paramedic for over 10 years.

Ullman has also been an educator for nearly four years in public safety, beginning as a course instructor for the American Heart Association in 2023 and now working part-time as an EMS Instructor for NPRC since the spring of 2025. Ullman has played a critical role in the introduction of the new hybrid format for the program and has served as an instructor and mentor to several students in her short amount of time with the College. “In a rural area like ours, education and training continue to become increasingly important. We have an aging workforce in general and in EMS is no exception. We need some new blood from a sustainability perspective, and It’s starting to become a new generation of people’s turn to step up and help our communities. Being able to be a mentor and teacher to someone else like some were to me is special.”

Her own emergency medical services instructor Bill Pennington was one of her first mentors in the field and today, she’s proud to call him a colleague at the St. Marys Ambulance. She also received some fundamental mentorship with the late Dan Kurtz when she was in her earlier years as a paramedic. He was a tremendous patient advocate and supervisor of Ullman’s and even checked in weekly via phone call when she relocated back to her western Pennsylvania roots from York County. The impact these two men have had on her has made her want to be that kind of colleague and mentor to those wanting to explore a career or service in public safety.

Working in the evenings and on weekends for NPRC works well in Ullman’s schedule as a first-shift employee for the St. Marys Ambulance. Like many of the current EMT students, they work another job and use evenings and weekends to watch lectures, study, and complete their hands-on requirements for the program. “This is a very flexible and affordable course, and I think NPRC realizes that. People have busy lives, but this program can be set around much of your own time and the hands-on portion can be completed close to where people live. Anyone who approaches me about EMT training, I tell them about this model and how it is still possible to complete it.”

Ullman is thankful to be home and serving a community filled with people she knows and cares about. It’s a pivotal time for rural Pennsylvania and especially in healthcare and public safety. She hopes that through her full-time means and part-time dedication to the College, she can be a part of the solution of sustainability for years to come. “This is home, and I’m very passionate about helping people. It brings great joy to share about what I do and get to help others. I’m hopeful that others seeing a little bit about my story can bring forth more people who are interested in and able to serve in emergency medical services.”

Myers Trucking Inc., is a family-owned company located in Mount Jewett. They specialize in logistics and transportation and have been in operation for nearly four decades. The business primarily serves the natural gas and oil industries, providing specialized heavy hauling, water transport, and freight service.

In recent months, Myers Trucking has supported two employees, Brady Danielson and Travis Causer, who were in need of their CDL license training to advance and diversify their skills. Thanks to funding from Workforce Solutions for North Central Pennsylvania, they secured money to support these employees and ease the cost. The two employees completed the training with NPRC in Tionesta with College partner CNB Wagner. CNB Wagner, who provides an accelerated CDL license experience, allows students to complete the bookwork portion of the program online at their own pace. The program then concludes with 40 hours of driving over five days. At the end of the five days of driving, testing is completed, with students having two attempts to pass their drivers test to earn their license.

For Myers Trucking, sending students for a week of CDL training in the accelerated program was an excellent fit and they’ve been pleased with how their two employees have performed since obtaining their licenses this spring. “CNB Wagner really knows a great deal about CDL training and trucking,” shared co-owner Linda Myers. “Chrischelle Wagner was amazing to work with and helped make the program seamless for our two employees. They offer some different levels of training to pick from and also provided insight in helping to solve a problem one of our employees had with obtaining his permit as well.”

The program also worked well for Myers Trucking because CNB Wagner’s on-site program requires just one week of on-site training. “We are happy with the program and that we found out about the opportunity with CareerLink® to reduce the cost as well. Brady and Travis were happy with the training as well and the smaller class size that allowed for that one-on-one time to be trained. If we have more employees in the future who need their CDL, we will certainly explore this program again with NPRC and CNB Wagner.

The All Hazards Disaster Response (AHDR) course employs a systems-based approach to disaster preparedness and response, with a focus on caring for ill and injured patients during a mass-casualty incident or disaster.

Continental Fire Co. #3 - Danville, in partnership with us at NPRC, is offering a free two-day NFA/ATF Fire Investigation: First Responders (F-0770) course later this month. This valuable training provides a foundational understanding of fire investigation practices for first responders.

This course is recommended for fire and emergency services personnel involved in initial fire response or preliminary origin and cause investigations. This training is also open to all state and local sworn police officers.

NPRC is hiring temporary part-time EMS Instructors to teach EMS courses, EMS continuing education, and CPR/First Aid programming on a regular basis in Warren, Erie, Titusville, Bradford, and Coudersport, Pennsylvania regions.

Instructors will deliver live online instruction, in-person classroom instruction, and hands-on lab training at assigned NPRC locations. They will lead skills labs, assess student performance, maintain required course records, prepare classrooms and equipment, and assist with coordinating EMS programming in their assigned classrooms.

The instructors will also work with supervisors, full-time EMS instructors, workforce development staff, part-time instructors, partner agencies, and students to ensure consistent course delivery, regulatory compliance, and student success.

Back in February, NPRC helped four employees from Penn-York Camp become ServSafe certified. These employees also had the opportunity to complete the Culinary Boot Camp Training. It was a great way to get ready to serve nearly 150 people each day for much of the summer.

These four team members of Penn-York Judy Plotts, Kira Hilton, Bean Seratt, and Keith Cole
shared sentiments such as the training helped them become confident in cooking for large crowds, the learning was well prepared and professional but also geared towards our needs to improve as chefs, and it helped inspire their creativity for this summer of baking and cooking.

Penn-York Camp is located in Potter County (Ulysses) and has been serving youth ages five to 18 through Christian ministry since 1969. Their mission of helping to serve others is much like ours at the College. Thank you to the staff of Penn-York for allowing us to be a part of getting ready for the 2026 summer camp season! 🍳
