So what does a week at FEFY camp actually look like? ✈️⛺️

Yes, there’s soaring - 10 instructional flights for every camper! But that’s only part of the experience.

🌊 Swimming in the river
🔬 Hands-on STEM workshops
✈️ Ground school & aviation learning
🍽️ Yummy meals together
🔥 Bonfires & s’mores
💙 New friends and a whole lot of fun

This summer, 27 campers joined us for three week-long camps designed to help young people explore aviation while building confidence, learning new skills, and making the kind of summer memories that stick with you.

And thanks to the generosity of FEFY supporters, we’re able to help make opportunities like these possible for young people interested in aviation.

Because sometimes helping the next generation soar starts with giving them the chance to discover just how much they’re capable of. ✈️

Not a bad view for summer camp. 😍✈️🏔️

This summer, our FEFY campers didn’t just learn about aviation from the ground—they got to experience it from the sky.

Across three week-long camps, 27 young people spent their days learning to soar, exploring aviation and STEM, building friendships, and experiencing everything that makes a summer at the gliderport so special.

And with 10 instructional flights for every camper, they got plenty of opportunities to take in views like these. 💙

Flying is just the beginning of what happens during a week at FEFY—and we can’t wait to show you more!

Flying is only part of what our campers get to explore. 🚁✈️

At our FEFY fundraising dinner, we got to showcase some of the incredible STEM learning our campers worked on during summer camp!

This demonstration featured a drone project campers helped with, showing how a drone could be used to deliver a supply package to a pretend lost person. 📦

It’s a great example of what FEFY is all about: giving young people hands-on opportunities to explore aviation, technology, engineering, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving.

And none of these experiences would be possible without the supporters who help make our programs happen. 💙

From working the line to flying solo in a single-seat sailplane. ✈️👏

Coleman has been part of our line crew for years, and along the way, he’s been learning to fly. Here he is taking another pretty exciting step in that journey: flying the 126.

What makes this flight so special?

In general aviation, most pilots learn a new aircraft with an instructor sitting right beside them. But in a single-seat aircraft, there’s no room for an instructor!

Before the flight, another pilot walks you through the aircraft from the ground - its controls, components, flying characteristics, and all the little quirks you need to know.

Then it’s just you and the airplane. 💙

Opportunities to fly a single-seat aircraft are relatively rare in aviation, but soaring is one of the places where pilots can have that experience.

It’s been pretty special watching Coleman grow from a member of our line crew into a pilot taking on new aircraft and new challenges.

The Line Crew Olympics continued with a challenge that put communication, teamwork, and driving skills to the test. 😂🏆

For the Golf Cart Challenge, one person had to navigate the slalom course completely blind while their teammate gave clear directions - all while trying to avoid the tires AND keep the water from spilling on our very innocent victim.

So who won? We’re calling this one a draw!

🏁 Team Silastian: 2:29 — slowest time, but a CLEAN run with no tires hit!

🏁 The Dream Team: 2:09 — fastest time, but ran over or hit a couple of tires along the way. 😬

🏁 A2 = X: 2:17 — right in the middle, with just one tire hit.

Turns out speed isn’t everything when precision counts! 😂

The competition may have ended in a draw, but the teamwork, communication, and laughs made this one a definite win.

Turns out learning to soar involves a few skills on the ground, too. 🪢✈️

The daisy-chain challenge was part of our Line Crew Olympics, where youth put their line crew skills to the test!

The challenge: daisy-chain a tow rope as quickly as possible while keeping it neat AND making sure it will untie cleanly when it’s needed.

🏆 Silas and Sebastian took the win!

It’s all part of the experience—learning real skills, working together, having a little friendly competition, and becoming more confident around the gliderport.

Thank you to all who came out for a wonderful dinner celebrating all FEFY has accomplished this year and helping to fundraise for the big goals we have for the future! It was a perfect evening with our beloved flying community and supporters! We couldn’t do it without you!!
