📱💻 Online Safety Starts with Open Conversations 💜

Children spend more time online than ever before, making it important for parents, caregivers, and trusted adults to talk regularly about online safety. Here are a few important reminders to share with children:

🔒 Private information is private.
Never share personal information such as your full name, address, school, phone number, passwords, or location with people online.

🚫 It's okay to say "No" online, too.
Children should know they have the right to leave conversations, block users, or tell a trusted adult if something online makes them uncomfortable.

🤫 Some secrets are not safe—online, too.
If someone asks a child to keep a secret from their parents, caregivers, or trusted adults, that's a red flag. Safe adults do not ask children to keep secrets.

💬 No secret chats.
Children should be cautious of anyone who asks them to move conversations to private messaging apps, delete messages, or keep online interactions hidden.

👂 Keep communication open.
Create a safe space where children feel comfortable talking about their online experiences, questions, and concerns without fear of getting in trouble.

🛡️ The best tool for online safety is a trusted adult who listens, supports, and stays involved. By having regular conversations and setting healthy boundaries, we can help children navigate the online world safely and confidently.

☀️ Summer is quickly approaching, and with school breaks, vacations, camps, and outdoor activities just around the corner, it's a great time to focus on keeping children safe.

At A Safe Place of Warren and Forest Counties, we believe that prevention starts with education and open communication. We've put together a few helpful tips to help parents, caregivers, and trusted adults create safe environments where children can thrive.

Remember to:
💜 Talk with children about bodies, boundaries, and behaviors.
💜 Check in regularly and ask how they are feeling.
💜 Listen to both the little things and the big things.
💜 Learn the signs of grooming and stay alert to concerning behaviors.
💜 Encourage children to identify trusted adults they can turn to for help.

Small conversations can have a big impact. By staying informed, involved, and connected, we can all help create a safer summer for the children in our communities.

Protecting children is everyone’s responsibility. 💙

A Safe Place of Warren and Forest Counties encourages all community members, professionals, and caregivers to learn more about the importance of Mandated Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse.

Mandated reporters play a critical role in helping keep children safe by recognizing and reporting signs of abuse or neglect. Reporting concerns can help connect children and families with the support and protection they need.

In Pennsylvania, reports of suspected child abuse can be made through:
📞 ChildLine: 1-800-932-0313
