Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans learned they were free more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

As union members, we recognize Juneteenth as a celebration of freedom, resilience, education, and the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality for all workers.

From the UAW Local 51 Education Committee, we wish everyone a meaningful and reflective Juneteenth.

Did you know Region one Director is Lashawn English and the Assistant Director is Ray Pecoraro. Region one serves Huron, Lapeer, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Sanilac, Tuscola, and part of Wayne County. Which is Detroit as well as Canada.
