The American Legion Department of Oklahoma

The American Legion Department of Oklahoma Become a member and help keep us strong enough for the next 100 years. Membership swiftly grew to over 1 million, and local posts sprang up across the country.

For over a century The American Legion has implemented, funded, fought locally, state, nationally, and on Capitol Hill for our service members, veterans & their families since 1919. The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, servicemembers and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of Worl

d War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States. Today, membership stands at over 2.4 million in 14,000 posts worldwide. The posts are organized into 55 departments: one each for the 50 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines.

It is with deep sadness and heartfelt sympathy that we acknowledge the passing of Robert Faust, the first elected National Commander of the Sons of The American Legion.

Commander Faust's leadership, dedication, and commitment to our organization helped lay the foundation for generations of Sons who have followed in his footsteps. His contributions to the Sons of The American Legion and to The American Legion Family will not be forgotten.

On behalf of the Sons of The American Legion, we extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him.

May he rest in peace, and may we honor his legacy through our continued service to veterans, their families, and our communities

More than 160 years ago, the news of freedom finally reached the last enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas.

Today, The American Legion Family reflects on the continuing journey toward a more perfect union.

Happy Juneteenth

Good Morning!!

We are still moving forward and are at 96.7% with 11,364 members. We still need 386 members to reach our National goal. There are 11 days remaining in the month. We can do this if we all reach out to our members who haven't renewed for this year. There are over 1000 members who have not renewed.

Ask members from your Post to reach out to those who haven't renewed. Send them a text message or an email. Make a personal phone call. Let's make sure they are still doing okay.

Congratulations to District 3B, Post 74 for reaching 100%. Awesome!! We have 20 Posts who are at 100% and 49 Posts who are over 100%. Fantastic work by everyone.

According to National, we are in 8th place. If we continue to move forward, we could get back in 6th or 7th place. Let's make a final push over the next 11 days and reach 100.

Thanks for everything you are doing. I am proud to be working with such a great group of Veterans.

Shirley May

Good Afternoon!!

We continue to move forward in small increments. We are at 96.6% of our National Goal with 11,354 members. We only need 396 more members to hit the goal set by National.

We have 67 Posts who need 10 or less to reach 100%. There are 31 Posts who need 30 or less to reach 100%. Also, there are 3 Posts who need 70 or less to reach 100%. This adds up to approximately 1075 members. We would not only meet and surpass the goal set by National, but we would also exceed the goal set by the Oklahoma leadership.

I have mentioned previously that we have over 800 members that haven't renewed. The numbers above indicate there are more than 1000 members who haven't renewed. Let's reach out to them and see if they will renew. Phone calls, texts, emails, or even a post card or letter.

We had two Districts increase by 1% each. Congratulations on still working the membership numbers. We still have 49 Posts over 100% and 19 Posts who are at 100%. Great job!. I appreciate all of the hard work by everyone.

I look forward to seeing everyone at Summer Conference, 9-12 July 2026.
