Grief can be part of the story.

But it does not have to drive.

On this episode of Voices of OKC, Jed sits down with Kristina Mills, an Oklahoma mom, career coach at OU, and contestant on Survivor 49.

Kristina shares why she applied for the show after walking through postpartum depression, losing her mom to a fentanyl overdose, and realizing she did not want her children to only see a version of her that felt sad and stuck.

Her story is honest, layered, and full of hope.

She talks about honoring her mom, facing fear, surviving Fiji, and learning that grief, depression, and anxiety may be passengers in life, but they do not get to take the wheel.

This is a conversation about loss, courage, motherhood, mental health, and choosing to move forward.

Most people see after-school programs as activities, games, and homework help.
Christian Matthews sees something deeper.
As Program Coordinator at City Center, Christian spends his days helping students navigate challenges that often have nothing to do with academics. Behind many behavioral issues are stories of loneliness, bullying, family struggles, anxiety, and a longing to be understood.
In this conversation, Christian shares how God unexpectedly led him to City Center, what he's learned about loving people unconditionally, and why relationships remain the foundation of lasting transformation.
He also opens up about his personal faith journey, his work as an artist and musician, and the difficult decision to step away from growing opportunities in music in order to pursue deeper obedience and spiritual growth.
If you're a parent, mentor, teacher, coach, or community leader, this episode offers valuable insight into what young people need most from the adults around them.

Some students do not need another activity.

They need a safe place.
They need someone who listens.
They need an adult who sees past the behavior and asks what is really going on.

Christian shares why relationships matter more than programs, how working with students has taught him about unconditional love, and why his greatest hope is that students learn to love themselves and understand their worth.

This one is for parents, mentors, educators, youth leaders, and anyone who cares about the next generation.

"I can't afford organic. I can't afford healthy. I want to feed my kids healthy food."

Brooke kept hearing the same thing... over and over again. So she did something about it.

No farming experience. No business background. No nonprofit knowledge. Just a clear vision and a conviction she describes as the Holy Spirit saying, "We are doing this."

Tune in to hear how Brooke and her husband launched a nonprofit farm from scratch.

"I want you to feed my people." 🐑

Brooke had a vision she couldn't shake... standing on a cliff, surrounded by sheep, and a calling she didn't fully understand yet. So she held onto it. And eventually, it led her out of nursing and into something she felt called to do.

That's how Natural Freedom Farm began. Not with a business plan, but with a vision.

Brooke Freeman never planned to become a farmer.
After years working as a NICU nurse, she found herself wrestling with a simple question: How do we truly help people become healthier?
That question eventually led to the creation of Natural Freedom Farm, a nonprofit farm dedicated to growing fresh, nutrient-dense produce for families who might not otherwise have access to it.
In this conversation, Brooke shares the story behind the farm, the vision that launched it, and why education is just as important as the food itself.
She also explains regenerative farming, food insecurity, and how healthy food can become a pathway to better health outcomes for children and families.
Natural Freedom Farm has become an important partner to City Center, helping provide fresh produce that goes directly into meals served to youth and families throughout Oklahoma City.

A NICU nurse had a vision: “Feed my people.”

No farming experience.
No nonprofit experience.
No perfect five-year plan.

Just obedience, a piece of land, and a growing conviction that healthy food should not be a luxury.

In Episode 28 of Voices of OKC, Brooke Freeman shares the story behind Natural Freedom Farm, a nonprofit farm in Chandler providing fresh, nutrient-dense produce to families and organizations across Oklahoma.

This conversation is about food insecurity, faith, regenerative farming, and what happens when someone says yes before they have all the answers.

We’re especially grateful for the way Natural Freedom Farm partners with to help our students and families receive fresh food straight from the ground to our kitchen.
