Bath County Plein Air Festival The Tenth Annual Bath County Plein Air Festival September 25-October 1, 2023. Warm Springs Gallery presents the Ninth Annual Bath County Plein Air Festival.

For one week, thirty of the mid-Atlantic’s finest plein air painters will set up their easels along pristine rivers and country roads capturing the warm autumn light of Bath County, Virginia. Nestled in the Alleghany Mountains and home to the historic Homestead Resort, Bath County is a painter’s paradise, offering panoramic vistas, meandering streams and open meadows, family farms, and charming vi

llage scenes. Entry Instructions
Entries are to be processed through Online Juried Shows. Application, application fee, and three images are due by June 30, 2022. No entries will be accepted after this date. The Application fee is $40. Payment can be made either through PayPal of a valid credit card. Each artist must submit three (3) professional quality images of artwork in JPEG format with an Image Size of 72dpi @ 1920x1920 pixels. Jury of Submissions
The Bath County Plein Air Festival is a juried event with applications reviewed by a panel of five professional artists and/or curators. The panel will review all submitted applications and select 25 artists for a total of 30 artists to participate (2021 award winners will be invited back to the 2022 festival). Notification of selected artists will be sent to each applicant via email no later than July 15, 2022.

A Conversation on Creativity: Inside Bath County’s Living Arts Gathering:

Danny recently sat down with Cornelia Hodges, the Bath County creative producer behind Foodlore Provisions and lead organizer of the Living Arts Gathering, and Kathi Hendrick, a multidisciplinary artist, dancer, and filmmaker who co-created PORTALS, the festival’s opening-night performance.

Both artists spoke openly about their commitment to the community and the idea of creating a moving piece of art that highlights Bath County’s uniqueness.

The three-day festival takes place September 19–21:

Friday, Sept. 19 – PORTALS premieres at Garth Newel Music Center (5:00 p.m. & 8:30 p.m.).

Saturday, Sept. 20 – A full day of workshops: Awaken Yoga, cave exploration with tea, a dream tour of Warm Springs, somatic and community movement, and a breathwork/herbalism immersion. The Artist Showcase follows at 6:30 p.m. at Garth Newel — free for youth under 18.

Sunday, Sept. 21 – Sunrise hike and meditation, then a community soak and sound journey at the Warm Springs Pools.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Warm Springs Gallery, Owner and Director, Barbara Buhr invited 14 artists from across the country to participate in a springtime botanical-themed plein air event.

Artist In The Garden will include home and garden tours, picnics in the gardens, artist demonstrations, guest speakers, an orchard tour and tasting, a pop-up market featuring locally sourced foods and wares, and intimate al fresco dinners with the artists catered by Two Fire Table.
