This Indigenous People's Day, we invite you to take a moment to consider the land you love and who loved it first.

The Wampanoag people have called this place home since time immemorial, and their knowledge, stewardship, and connection to this land continues to shape how we think about conservation today. We are grateful for the ongoing work of the Native Land Conservancy and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and encourage you to take a moment to reflect and learn something new today.

Nothing is more important than having clean drinking water. Conserving our forests and natural areas reduces runoff into lakes, rivers, and streams, directly protecting the quality of water in our taps and wells. Question 6 will protect these vital drinking water sources across Massachusetts. Vote YES on Question 6!

This Saturday, October 10th, join us for Autumn on the Agawam, our beloved fall foliage kayaking event on the Agawam River from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Bring your own kayak or canoe, paddle, and life jacket and come experience Wareham's fall colors from the water.

We'll be taking a little break afterwards but be ready to join us on Tuesday, October 20th, we have a Trail Day at Douglas S. Westgate Conservation Area from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, and that same morning join us at the Red Brook Trail Network from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM for Words by the Water, a creative writing experience in partnership with Write Out Cape Cod. Bring a notebook, settle in by the brook, and let the season inspire you.

Imagine you are walking out on your favorite trail. What are you keeping an eye or an ear out for?

Are you a mushroom spotter, always pointing out the puffballs and toadstools? Or can you tell apart an American Crow from a Fish Crow with ease? Mindfulness on the trail is not just about being present, it is about knowing what you are looking for and training your senses to find it. The more we slow down and pay attention, the more the natural world reveals itself to us.

October is here and we are kicking it off on the trails!

Join us Tuesday, October 6th for a Trail Day at the Red Brook Trail Network from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. A beautiful time of year to get outside, lend a hand, and enjoy the Red Brook as the colors begin to change around it.

Fall is here and October is full of wonderful ways to get outside, get creative, and connect with Wareham's natural world as the season changes!

This month we have trail days, our beloved Autumn on the Agawam fall foliage kayaking event, a creative writing experience at the Red Brook Trail Network as part of Write Out Cape Cod, and a fascinating evening presentation on the sights and sounds of wetlands and wildlife at the Wareham Free Library. We are also excited to share an early heads up about a community book read coming up in November, so keep reading!

Everyone in Massachusetts deserves clean drinking water and access to nature, no matter where they live. This year, we have an important opportunity to protect our rivers, lakes, forests, and farms. Question 6, the Protect Water and Nature Ballot Initiative, will dedicate funds to conservation without raising taxes. Let’s protect the places we love! Learn more about how we are working to pass this on the 2026 statewide ballot.

This Monday's Mindful Moment features the Weweantic River winding through the Douglas Westgate and Fearing Hill conservation areas, filmed by our Advisory Board member, Joe Menetski.

As the seasons transition around us, nature provides a perfect blueprint for renewal. The river adapts, replenishes, and moves forward. What part of your life is ready for a fresh start or a moment of renewal? Take a deep breath, watch the water, and hit the reset button for the week ahead.
