Evan Bridges Memorial Scholarship Fund

Evan Bridges Memorial Scholarship Fund On July 21, 2024 Evan was killed in a horrific car accident on Hwy 25 just 3 miles from home. Evan was a passionate athlete from the time he was 3 years old.

His death has left a hole in the community that will be felt for years to come. We have established this fund as a way to honor him and keep his memory alive. We have established this fund to be awarded to a graduating athlete at Evan's alma mater, Ware Shoals High School in Ware Shoals, SC. He lettered in football and baseball at WSHS and had a desire to see his beloved school return to its forme

r athletic glory days. This scholarship is intended to encourage participation in sports while maintaining college eligible grades. Final criteria still have to be established, but it will not be dependent on the student playing college sports. The main criteria will be multi-year and ideally multi-sport participation along with maintaining grades. We hope to be able to award this yearly, either at graduation or the athletic awards. More information regarding criteria will be communicated as soon as those details are ironed out.

As well as all the players who gave their time and money to our cause. Evan was taken from us far too soon and we have chosen this as a way to keep his name and memory alive in a positive way. We will be back next year, hopefully bigger and better. With this year's results, we now have to decide: do we award bigger scholarships or more scholarships next year? What a beautiful dilemma to have! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I'm sure Evan is watching all of this with a smile.

The 1st Annual Evan Bridges Memorial Scholarship Tournament is a wrap and what a roaring success it was! We sold out the golf course capacity, had tremendous response on the hole sponsorships, lunch was donated by Chick Fil A of Greenwood, Zach Calhoun and his staff at Ware Shoals Golf Course were amazing, and after about 6 weeks of 95+ degree weather, it was cool and overcast for the tournament with rain holding off until just as the last golfers were finishing up. It was as if our angel watching over us orchestrated the perfect day for us to honor his memory. This event insures we will be able to help more kids heading off to college next year, and just as importantly, hopefully the promise of this scholarship being available will influence high schoolers at Evan’s Alma Mater to strive toward the qualities in their life that will make them eligible for the Evan Bridges Memorial Scholarship. We will have another post later today properly thanking everyone who participated and sharing photos from our amazing day.

Congratulations to the first winners of the Evan Bridges Memorial Scholarship! Destiny Alewine and Joseph Kletzke each were awarded a $500 scholarship and Jayce Medlin was awarded the main scholarship of $3,500. They were selected from all applicants by a committee made up of a group of people who were closest to Evan during his lifetime. The selection was based on athletic participation, leading with heart, being a team player, showing compassion for others and having Hornet pride. I think Evan would be very happy with the choices. Year 1 was a success. Now let's raise some money so we can do this again with the Class of 2026 and keep Evan's memory alive!
