Safety First β Emergency Response connection at Camp Tahosa. We thank you!!!
On Saturday, July 1 2023, Greater Colorado Council Emergency Service Corps team members Dana Smercheck, Brad Johnston and Bill Vanhorne installed a new Ham Radio antenna and cable on the roof of the Tahosa Lower Meadow Barn.
This new antenna allows Ham operators visiting Camp Tahosa the ability to easily connect with several Colorado radio repeater networks, most notable the Rocky Mountain Radio League which hosts our ScoutNet program on the first and third Sunday of each month and the Colorado Connection / Colorado Emergency Radio Network (CERN).
CERN provides volunteers that monitor their network on a 24x7 basis for emergency radio traffic. They relay any 911 Emergency Calls to the proper response teams. Camp Tahosa is outside any cellular phone service so being able to connect with CERN provides an alternative ability to communicate with 911 services in an emergency.
