Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County - CARE of DC CARE of DC is a "No Kill" organization. We take in animals that are "at risk" and try to find forever homes for them.

CARE of DC is a "No Kill", non profit organization. Our goal is to save as many animals from euthanasia as possible. We take our animals from high kill shelters and work to rehabilitate them and find forever homes. Our organization works closely with other rescues and shelters that share in our values. We have developed a strong network of "no kill" partners and we assist them on a regular basis. We take in corporate donations, warehouse them and then work to distribute the donated food and supplies to our partners in need.

Meet Chip! 💙

Can we just take a second to appreciate how HANDSOME this boy is?!
Chip is a stunning 2 year old 50 pound Husky, who we believe may be mixed with Shepherd, and he has some of the most intense blue eyes we’ve EVER seen!

Chip is truly such a good boy, and we can’t believe he hasn’t found his people yet!

🐾 Loves everyone he meets!
🐾 Seems to be house trained!
🐾 Knows basic commands!
🐾 Walks beautifully on a leash!
🐾 An absolute sweetheart!

And see that one floppy ear? Unfortunately, Chip’s ear has actually been split right down the middle. We aren’t sure what happened to him before he came into our care, as he was found as a stray, but we think it just adds a little extra character to that handsome face.

Chip seems to prefer being the only dog in the home. He hasn’t been tested with cats, but based on his breed and behavior, we think a kitty free home would probably be best too!

Now, let’s talk about the HUSKY part!

As wonderful as Chip is, Huskies aren’t for everyone! They’re intelligent, energetic, sometimes stubborn, and have a whole lot of personality. They need regular exercise, mental stimulation, and someone willing to keep up with them! Huskies are also known for being escape artists, so a secure environment and responsible owner are a MUST!

Chip would love an active family who enjoys walks, hikes, adventures, and spending time outdoors. Someone who understands the breed (or is willing to learn!) would be ideal.

We don’t know what Chip’s life looked like before he ended up at the shelter, but we do know he deserves a pretty amazing one from here on out. ❤️

🐾 STORAGE DONATIONS NEEDED! 🐾

We’re looking for some extra-large, heavy-duty storage containers to help us keep our dog food safely and securely stored at the shelter!

Does anyone have any large metal storage bins they’re no longer using? Or maybe an old chest freezer taking up space in your garage or basement? Even if it no longer works, we’ll take it! As long as it’s in good condition and can be securely closed, it may be exactly what we need!

🚫 We are NOT looking for plastic storage bins.

‼️ PLEASE do not drop anything off at the shelter without messaging us first! We want to make sure the item will work for our needs before accepting it.

ADOPTED! 🥳🐾

🐾 MEET BOOTS! 🖤🐶

This handsome, fluffy boy is looking for his second chance at a forever home!

Boots is a 6½-month-old, 36-pound pup who is as friendly as can be! We believe he may be some sort of Border Collie mix, but your guess is as good as ours! Whatever he is, he’s 100% adorable!

Boots was adopted from us as a young puppy about three months ago, but unfortunately, he was recently surrendered back into our care. His family had toddlers, and Boots’ high energy and rough play were simply too much for the little ones.

Boots is NOT a bad dog. He’s just a young, energetic puppy who still has a lot to learn! ❤️

🐾 A little about Boots:

* 6½ months old and currently 36 pounds
* Super friendly and loves people!
* Potty trained!
* Gets along well with other dogs
* Has never lived with cats, so we’re unsure how he’d do
* Very energetic and playful
* Still needs some basic training and guidance

We’re looking for a home with no young children, although older, dog-savvy kids would be fine!

Boots needs an active family who understands that puppies require time, patience, and consistency. He would LOVE someone who enjoys going on walks, runs, hikes, and outdoor adventures! Along with physical exercise, he’ll need plenty of mental stimulation to keep that busy puppy brain occupied.

We want to make sure Boots’ next home is his last home.

He’s sweet, he’s smart, he’s full of life, and he has SO much love to give. He just needs the right person to give him a chance. 🖤

5 little fighters!

When these five tiny sisters first arrived in our care, we honestly weren’t sure what their future would look like. They were just under one month old, skin and bones, dirty, fragile, and had already been through so much in their short little lives.

But these girls were FIGHTERS from day one! And one thing they NEVER lost was their appetite!

Fast forward to today, and we are SO happy to share that ALL FIVE GIRLS ARE THRIVING!!!

They’re gaining weight, growing like weeds, playing, and eating us out of house and home! We couldn’t be happier with how far these little ladies have come.

A HUGE thank you to their foster Jeanne Occhicone for giving these babies all the love, patience, and care they needed to get to where they are today!

These five little babies still have some growing to do, but we expect they’ll be ready to find their forever families in about a month or so!

From tiny, fragile babies to happy, healthy, chunky little kittens. This is what rescue is all about!!!

🍂FALLING FOR A SHELTER DOG: MEET VENUS! 🍁

Meet Venus, a beautiful 2-year-old, 60-pound girl who has been through more than any dog deserves.

Before arriving in our care, Venus was found as a stray. When she came to us, she was pregnant, severely underweight, and battling an upper respiratory infection. Unfortunately, despite everything, none of her puppies survived.

After several weeks of recovery, Venus slowly regained her strength and started feeling like herself again. Now, she’s healthy, happy, and ready for a fresh start with a family of her own.

Despite everything she’s been through, Venus is such a sweet girl! She’s potty trained, knows basic commands, and if you really want to win her over, just bring some TREATS

Venus would do best in a home with a female owner, as men can be a little scary for her at first. That’s not to say she doesn’t like men! She just needs a little extra time to feel comfortable and would likely need a few meetings with any men in the home before adoption. We can’t say for sure what happened in her past, but we unfortunately suspect that people weren’t very kind to her.

We would love nothing more than to see this sweet girl curled up on someone’s couch, safe and loved, with nothing left to worry about.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated in our Saturday Sleepover this past weekend! Our pups had such a great time getting a little break from shelter life and enjoying some much needed love and attention!

We had SO many people sign up for our Saturday Sleepover, but unfortunately, not as many pups got picked up as we had hoped!

The sweet faces pictured below are still at the shelter, waiting for someone to take them home for the night! 🥹❤️
