"If people can be taught to hate, they can be taught to love." — Dr. Opal Lee

Dr. Opal Lee calls herself the Grandmother of Juneteenth. We call her an inspiration.

Dr. Opal Lee spent decades fighting to make Juneteenth a national holiday. Starting at age 89, she walked 2.5 miles every year to symbolize the 2.5 years it took for enslaved people in Texas to learn they were free. In 2021, at 94, she presided over the ceremony where Juneteenth was signed into federal law.

Dr. Lee is also a reminder that building a more equitable world takes showing up — year after year, mile after mile. Let’s remember to show up for one another.

What an incredible celebration yesterday at the Habitat Dutchess ReStore ribbon cutting ceremony!

Hard to believe it's been ten years! Yesterday we were reminded about the biggest ingredient for our success: our community!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the ribbon cutting, to the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce, and to WOLF Radio's Paty Quyn for making the day so special.

And a heartfelt thank you to every shopper, donor, staff and volunteer who has walked through our doors over the last decade — you are the reason we're still here and growing.

Here's to the next ten. 🎉

From the first ReStore sign to the first ReStore customer, we've been digging into the photo archives recently! Tomorrow we're celebrating 10 years in this location! Time flies when you're having fun and doing good.

Tomorrow we're cutting the ribbon on a brand-new chapter: a fully refreshed ReStore with a redesigned interior, improved shopping, and a decade of community behind it.

The heat couldn't keep our Pride from showing at the City of Poughkeepsie's annual Pride parade and celebration this weekend.

Volunteer Manager Holly, ReStore Assistant Manager Erica, and volunteers Patty and Matthew joined community organizations and neighbors from across the region for a day full of color, joy, and the kind of energy that reminds you exactly why this community is worth showing up for.
