Established on October 1, 1991. Our motto is Friend of Youth. We are a service organization with more than 30 members.

Optimist will be recognized worldwide as the premier volunteer organization that values all children and helps them develop to their full potential.

Nikki Barger, an intervention specialist at Wapakoneta High School, informed the Club about the new program getting started at the school called Wapakoneta Pathfinders.

The Pathfinders program helps students of all abilities build confidence, job readiness and life skills while making meaningful contributions to the community.

Our Club submitted an application for a grant from Optimist International to assist with getting this program up and running next school year and are happy to announce that we were awarded $1,000 to assist them. Nikki explained what the grant and the club match will be used for.

We are proud to partner with this group and excited to see all the opportunities for the students!

Today we heard from Benjamin Elder, Auglaize County Prosecuting Attorney, about protecting ourselves from scams. He talked about the various scams he’s seen here in Auglaize County and what we should do if we fall victim to a scam.

Here is some advice that was given:
- Do not click on links in emails or text messages from senders you do not know.
- If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a relative and they ask for money, tell them you’ll call them back in a few minutes. Hang up and call their direct number to see if it truly was them.
- Do not purchase gift cards and read off the numbers over the phone if a caller makes the claim you must do this in order to be protected, had your name cleared, etc.
- If someone calls and asks for money and makes the claim you cannot hang up on them because you are being watched, hang up on them and call law enforcement.

These are just a few pieces of advice given. If you do happen to fall prey to one of the scams, don’t be embarrassed. Report the claim to law enforcement. The Sheriff’s Department is actively working with the FBI to catch these bad actors so speaking up helps.

It’s Right to Read Week at Wapak Elementary this week and the theme is jungle animals. Hopefully the kids learn something new about jungle animals from the book we just put in the Storywalk Trail!

We had the pleasure of honoring 20 students in the Wapakoneta City School District for being nominated for our Student of the Month program for the months of January through May today.

We also recognized our essay contest winners and our scholarship recipients. Congratulations to all!

The Noon Optimist Club was proud to be part of Healthy Kids Day at the Wapak YMCA this year!

We are grateful to partner with the YMCA and support opportunities that help kids stay active, engaged, and inspired.

Thank you to Ross Kantner for speaking today about the new Parks & Rec Levy issue that is on the May 5th ballot. (Levy information taken from the City website)
This is a new 5 year Levy to replace the one that expires this year. Our kids deserve a nice area to learn, grow, and play. Support your community and read up on the recreation Levy before voting in May.
